T-5,000 starting stacks

20 T-5
20 T-25
14 T-100
6 T-500

Is this too many chips for starting stacks?

For a proper T5 blind schedule I’d do

15x 5
17x 25
15x 100
+ higher denoms

That’s how I used to run my PNY tourneys. However these days my faux-T5 just adds 2-3 levels to the low end of a T25 blind schedule, and I go with

10x 5
10x 25
12x 100
+ higher denoms

I have
400 T-5
400 T-25
600 t-100
200 T-500

When we do our T5000 tournaments we start with the following...
25 T5
15 T25
10 T100
7 T500
It's the only way I can make my set work and the guys love all the chips to start.

You definitely have enough to give full barrels of 5's and 25's so its up to personal preference of what your players or more importantly you like to have infront of you.

Yes and no. "Too many" is sorta subjective.

Will it work? Yes. Is it optimal? No.

That many T5s and T25s in play will likely slow things down a bit in the early stages. ~15x per lower denom per player is fine.

The starting 140 x T100s in play is plenty, so I'd recommend doing all of the color-ups with T500s.

Probably, but to be honest, when I started hosting tournaments 20 years ago using super diamonds I did 20/20/15 of 25/100/500 :).

But in truth you could probably do 10/10/7/x, 15/13/7/x or 15/17/6/x and be okay.

That said why T5000 for a T-5? If you are starting at 5-10 that's like 500 bigs deep?

True,

I kind of like the 15/17/15 T2000 seems reasonable.

This is a very good point that I haven't even thought of before. Although even if I start them with less T5 and T25s they still bet the same and always need change. I guess I just play with a bunch of slow rollers that like to limp.

We normally do a T2000 tournament but once a year we'll do a super deep T5000 tournament.

Never thought of this either. I'm going to revisit my structure, lol.
Learning stuff today. It's not often you see a thread with a T5 base.
I associate t-5 tournaments with the early days of online sit-and-goes. Blinds at 5-10, 1000 starting stack :).

This is the balance, you can't completely change-proof your game no matter what, so you have to balance how much change making is acceptable versus the liability of counting full stacks for all ins.

5000 in chis for a T5 is a very large stack, huge even.

For T5 I generally start btw t1000, t1500 or t1000 initial starting stack value. Usually I often incorporate rebuys and add-ons though t2000 or more could be a feezeout.

Most tournaments I run are T25s, but even then I mostly only start with 5k starting stacks and rebuys. The 10k+ t25 and 5k+t5 tournaments always seemed excessive to me and difficult to keep players attention for right to the end with massive stacks.

I personally find that many chips quickly become cumbersome. My monthly tournaments range from 18-24 players and soon people have chip stacks falling over or just so much in front of them its a pita. Not to mention when you chip up it is more to get rid of. To each their own. If you are having fun and it doesn't negatively affect play go for it.

Agree with this. Shouldn’t you be 300 BBs as a starting stack? So 1,500 or so
