Hey guys,

I am looking for suggestions on how to more efficiently collect re-buy money and pass out re-buy chips as a host and player in the tournament.

The last tournament I hosted I was spending more time passing out re-buy chips and collecting money then actually focusing on playing. Getting up, counting money, making change etc.

Maybe nothing can be done differently but open to suggestions.

What do you guys do? Looking forward to all suggestions.

Thanks,
Kyle

What was the rebuy amount? I'm a fan of dispensing rebuys in 1 or 2 big chips, if you're not doing that already. The player then goes to the trouble of making change at the table.

Not sure if this is optimal, or even recommended, but we have one person responsible for chips and another for cash. We also make rebuy stacks in advance so they are ready when needed.

Our tournaments have 1 rebuy, so I premake rebuy stacks for 2/3 of the expected field (more than enough) using denoms that do not include the bottom two denoms (so, no t25 or t100 chips in my rebuy stacks) as there are already plenty in play. Change can be made at the table from the large stack. Rebuy cost is the same as the buy in, and can be handled easily with one bill.

The player hands over the rebuy chip and the money, and they get a stack. I mark it on a tracking sheet. Easy to track and I can see at a glance if anything is out of balance.

Re-buy is $40 plus $1 for a bounty pool.

I then provide (4) $500 chips for the $2000 that they get. The player can then get change from the other winning players at the table.

I make sure that my seat is adjacent to the counter where I keep my chips and the iPad running blinds up. I have the busted player come up to me with the cash, I rebuy them with the app and hand them the short stack of large denoms and have them make change on their table (10x 1k, or 5x1k 1x5k). It takes me less than 3 minutes, and they have to wait if I am in the hand. My rebuy is $40 + $10 (bounty) so I just grab a $10 from the pile for change.

I used an empty rack, and precounted the rebuys, and placed them in each spare barrel. I had a few 10 X $1000 chips for T10,000, and the rest were 2 X $5000. Its really easy to do. Take cash, hand over precounted barrel, done.

Perhaps you could ask your players to arrive with the exact amounts of buy-ins & rebuys vs a $100 bill next time. Thats annoying.

What I liked about blinds up is that the app shows the exact price pool for 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc, and accounts for rebuys. Its nice to see what the pool looks like vs counting it in your head. I really hope the dev fixes the bugs.

How many players were you?

I am thinking about just keeping track on paper and then collect all re-buy money at the break one time from everone who did. This way I can just pass out chips.

I would take the cash up front to avoid confusion later.

Thanks for the comments. I had 14 players and 7 total re-buys.

Don't rely on the app for the prize pool - it is not accurate. Good idea to calculate it after the fact until issues are resolved. Just an FYI.

^^^ I do the exact same thing... I always seat on the same seat, by the chips, money box and laptop...

Mmm, I wonder if I should organize 3 cigar boxes down the road. 1 for buy-ins, 1 for rebuys, and the other for bounties. That way I can keep track of what money is going where.

If I had a cash register tray where I could separate the cash denoms, that would be IDEAL because it makes counting out change, checking the pool size, paying cashouts MUCH easier vs digging into a big pile of mixed denoms lying on top of one another and trying to find what you need. But I havent been able to find something like that so for now, perhaps multiple cigar boxes are a smarter idea.

I have rebuys ready made up in separate ziplock bags. Although it might be a case of over-simplification, I like to have a few "full stacks" for the early stages and then smaller stack, large denom chips as things progress. A player wants to rebuy, he comes to me, gives me the cash and I throw him a ziplock bag. We usually keep all the stake money in a sealed tin and their money would go straight in there (giving change if required). Very quick.

I use two yellow envelopes- prize pool and bounties. I have a cigar box set up by the beer taps as a donation box for the beer/cigars/hot dogs.

Yeah I use 2 cigar boxes. One for the bounty pool and one for the tournament.

You are right about the change part. This is what most of the delay is from.

Even if you had a 3rd box for just re-buys I assume you still have to dig in the 1st box for change.

Yeah good point. Please let me know if you find some sort of tray where you could split the denoms. $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 would be what most folks need, so 5 slots.

I'm not sure I follow where the benefit of having 3 boxes is... It seems to me it adds more complexity to things... One cash box, with lots of change provided by the host. The host controls what's been put in the box, and how many chips/bounties are being distributed. Money in, make change, chips/bounties out, another check in the software, done...

I liked this tray for $17, but its big, and the coin slots are wasted.

16 x 11 x 2-1/4

This one is 14-3/4" wide x 2-1/8" high x 9-15/16" deep for $14.

It would be, but then you have to sort them out as they come in, which might take as much time as the other way.

Have you thought about making the buy-ins and rebuys $39 + $1? No way would I mess with dollar bills.

For obvious reasons, this is probably not a good idea.

Thanks for your comments.

My structure is actually:

$35 buy in towards the current tournament

$5 towards the Final Tournament Pot Builder

$1 towards the bounty pool at the end of the season.

I just need to remind people to have $1 bills on hand for speed reasons.

In Australia we have large home hardware stores that sell small lockable money boxes with like 3 or 4 note trays. I get these to keep change in. They are about $20AUD so probably about $4 in America lol

I've used plastic coin tubes (medallion size is 39mm) to hold pre-cut rebuy stacks. I also use them to store random extra barrels. 20 chips fit perfectly in a tube.

If you have to make change for that $1 bounty it starts being a real PITA when you're also trying to play. I second the idea of having rebuys (more than you think you'll need) ready to go (they can be a sleeve of chips or just a couple of big chips and people can make change). I'd do something like $40 where $30 is the buyin and $10 is the bounty or $35 the buyin and $5 the bounty, that way you're just picking up 2 $20s and giving chips and can get back to the hand.

I've gone deep in every PCF tour tournament except my own - not even out of level 4 in mine. Just too much going on. It's tough.
