Hi,

I really like hotstamp chips and more and more I'm considering this route for my first custom set.
This would be a cash set.

I want it to be simple and old-school with vivid colors.
So more and more I'm considering a hotstamp cash set with cali colors.

I have 2 ideas :

Since the "The Post" (San José) chips are one my all time favourite, I was thinking of doing a similar set with "KID" written on a face and the denom on the other face.

The other idea would be a tribute of a place I visited while on Route 66 last year. Since it'd be a Cali colors set, I thought of a set on the "Calico" theme.

Calico "Ghost" town is an old mining 'town' which is now a small amusement park / museum.
I wanted to also feature "Dorsey", one of the famous characters of this town.

So here's the design:

What do you think ?

Regarding the dog, I've considered to make it "plain" and try to have some relief on his legs, tail, ... but preferred a simple "line design".

Here's the first mock-up with the colors I've selected :

Looks great! However, you'll need a separate custom die for each chip this way. Expensive.

I suggest removing the denom and making the dog slightly bigger and in the center. Use the same for all chips on one side.

The other side you can do the denomination, which is stock mold stuff.

@allforcharity Thanks for the idea and suggestion.

Indeed, for small quantities, it’d be better to use only one custom die and then the denomination on the other side of the chip.

I’ll see this evening / weekend how it looks like without denom and with a bigger Dog.

I like the simplicity of the stamp but, if these are supposed to be Cali colors, why a black $5 and green $20/$25?

Because on the The Post I liked the $5 black.

Initially I tought of a .05 solid yellow but I dropped it. Maybe I could now move the yellow to the $20 since it's not used anymore.

For the other chips :
.25 I really like solid red. Like the Lakeshore Inn.
A vibrant single spotted blue is something I like a lot as $1.

@RichMahogany what would you suggest for the $5 since red is used for the quater and for the $20 ?

Well, typically the $5 is yellow in a Cali set. Of course you can use whichever colors you like.

I really like the red fracs in the Lakeshore Inn set too. The Huntington Park chips also use a red base for one of the fracs. I think that DG tiger and DG peach also work well as fracs.

I would personally go with DG Tiger(or retro red or DGpeach)/DG peacock/DG saturn/chocolate(or butterscotch)I really like having a chocolate/butterscotch $20 in the set after seeing the Delta Club $20

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll play with the colors you suggested when dealing with colors.
And thanks a lot for your feedback on the stamp.
