I'm working on a CPC tournament set and I'm in a dilemma. I have all the denominations' designs down but can't decide on the design of the bounty chips. I have two candidates, and while one is definitely much better suited for the rest of the set color-wise (less confusion potential), the other looks too good to me to simply scrap it.

My idea was to use the better-suited design for the bounty but use the other design for some less-used special chip. Problem: I can't think of any that would find use in a home tournament, other than a house-provided card guard, which I'd rather avoid.

Do you guys have any other special chips you use in your tournaments?
Bonus points if only one or very few per player are required.

I've seen these "Make it a double" chips but I don't think these would make too much sense in a tournament. Also seen various "Show me" chips, and while I like the idea, their purpose might be a bit too home-gamey for the chip design theme.

The nope list:
  • Add-on/Rebuy chip. I'd rather do bookkeeping for this one instead of having people present a chip to prove their eligibility. People have to approach me as the bank anyway whenever they need chips, so integrity is ensured.
  • Extra denominated chips to provide chip bonuses instead. Already accounted for.
  • Seating chips. Using a stripped deck of cards is much more economical imo, plus I don't want to mod CPC chips with labels and the likes.

Prefer using a deck of cards for drawing seating numbers. Don't want to "mod" CPC chips with aftermarket labelling or the likes.

"First Player to xxxx" bonus ..
( Show pocket queens, get a straight with only 1 hole card, lose at showdown holding a pocket pair , or whatever .. )

Beer chip , this chip is one beer.

Champion chip , winner of the night gets a chip

Extra thinking time chip. When you need extra time

Just make it a multipurpose "BONUS" chip (labeled as such, or just left generic). It can then be used for different things on different occasions, including what you may think of in the future.

If you allow rebuys, a shame chip for each bullets you’re in for? So the guy who is on buyin #4 starts to get a mini tower

How does that work?
For a quick example, a host would, similar to a bounty, collect, say, $5 from each of the 9 players... then have a list of 9 items that would " earn" a player a $5 Bonus chip, ( 1st to Show pocket queens, get a straight with only 1 hole card, lose at showdown holding a pocket pair , or whatever .. )

I don't see where special (read: no regular denominated) chips would be required for that?

Some extra denominated chips are already in my breakdown that can be used to give chip bonuses out for various purposes, be it being at the table on time or achieving a certain goal first.

Similar to how a Tournament Bounty chip could also theoretically be just a $5 or whatever.. the bonus chip, like a Bounty chip, is a special earned chip that does not play.

Okay, now I get it. This does sound good - plus it won't require too many of them.

This breeds an idea - maybe not for me, but for others: A second level bounty chip.
If one has a diverse set of players in regards to how much money they'd like to play for, one could sell second level bounty chips to those willing to gamble for more in addition to the regular bounty chips everyone gets. A player in possession of a second level bounty chip that knocks out another with such a chip will take one of their second level bounty chips in addition to the one regular bounty chip. If a player with a second level bounty chip is knocked out by a person without such a chip, they get to keep theirs. Essentially creates a second prize pool which only players that also paid their share for can draw from, enabling two different levels of buy-ins for the same tournament.

We use different bounty chips for each level of bounty play, but prior to having them made, I used generic chips for the second-tier bounty. We call it the super-bounty.
