So it Begins... (9 Viewers)

I was only on the periphery of submitting the order and even that was stressful.

Loading a couple crates into MatB’s van and watching it sag under the weight and then prying open the crates to see GPI boxes was fairly amazing tho.

that has to be a lot of chips…. at least 50k? Awesome….

Ok. My last post about anything CPC, GPI, or anything besides Tiger chips.

CPC Colors - DG Yellow is really good enough. There is no reason to expend any energy trying to make it better. what do they need to make me happier? I’d love a turquoise/sea green. The need moss green. I’d love to see something to rival Mexican Rose And Russet.

Spots - They added the Trimoon, did 4 moon for me in a small batch but some spots like V patterns won’t work. Others I tried won’t work with 3D printed punches. I’d love an 8V and a Paulson style quarter pie. Don’t split hairs with me Dave It’s like a quarter pie!

Feel -Yeah they aren’t as soft as GPI but I really don’t care. Being able to create a full custom set is awesome. I’ll never know what it feels like to make my own GPI custom set but I’m cool with that now. I’ve got the casino sets I want now so I’m good there too.

GPI molds - RHC chips suck because not only are the hats too close to the edge, more important is that they are not stamped completely centered. This ensures flea bites with any set regardless if they are in a casino or home game. It will happen for any set that gets any amount of use. Also, the inlays are too big and hides the clay. I’ll never buy another RHC chip. I was in position to get anything I wanted at the Horseshoe GO and didn’t buy any.

Tigers - Without having any knowledge about what will happen, I can only hope I’m able to get what I want. Doesn’t matter which sets or chips. I’ll just buy everything :D Cash is more than ready. I do like that it appears there is a shot to get sets and that’s more than cool. It’s better than chasing rainbows and being at the mercy of flippers and anybody that knows me understands how I feel about those individuals.

Factually correct, of course. But based on what a guy can reasonably track down, I’ll stick with my point.
I'm just sayin' that the Tiger THC chips could have easily been produced with a number of other active GPI 39mm clay molds, including -- but not limited to -- RHC, denom, decor ring, lammer, roulette, flower/sun, or even a custom-made house mold, and with a large number of available inlay sizes on each one. They also could have been made in a half-dozen other chip diameters ranging from 36mm to 50mm.

Not even gonna mention their multiple high-end plastics products or casino-quality acylic plaques and jetons with multiple size and configuration options (oops, guess I did anyway).

In short, CPC doesn't have a monopoly in offering a wide array of chip mold options (which is sorta what you were implying with your lopsided numerical comparison).

I thought the biggest plus of the mold was that they wouldn’t flea bite as much as RHC, but I think THC generally looks better anyway.
I think that was the rationale when it came to casino used chips, but don’t know of anyone who has purchased new RHC chips for home use and had major flea bite issues.

Most people back in the day just wanted real casino chips, and no one emphasized the mold until one day when THC was just deemed superior. Probably had a lot to do with the PCAs. Most of the OG chip sets were RHC.

I agree that THC looks better but I’m questioning the durability thing now. RHC chip more often but the chips I’ve seen in THC is usually catastrophic. Is this a known thing or am I off base?

I’d be lying if I said I haven’t fantasized about what these chips would look like on a Tiger Hose mold.

Idk if KK considered, but it crossed my mind personally. I love housemolds like stardust and sands. I never brought it up though. That seemed like maybe too wild of an idea and I also assumed the cost would be extravagant. I was already planning on buying way more chips until I saw the new price tag.

LOL that last pic reminds me of my office right now

Exactly this. I love my CPC set and they do a great service but shuffling a stack of those and then shuffling a stack of leaded TRK or THCs and there is a huge difference.
Agreed. When I got my first CPC sample set, I was disappointed. When I got my first paulson's, I was in love.

I am pretty certain people will put those together at some point... I am envisioning a robust secondary market activity after the chips go on sale and get delivered as people will try to bulk-up some sets and even create other playable sets from scratch.

Initially there will be a 400pc, 600pc, and 1500pc tournament sets that will become available for sale (all hot stamps) and the cash sets will be for $0.25/$0.50, $1/$2, $2/$5 and $5/$10 games (both primary and secondary).

I know you were going to give out more information shortly, so if I need to wait for that info, that’s fine. But like the poster you were responding to my interest was in taking some of the high denom chips to complete a tournament set but if I’m reading you correctly, there is not enough quantity of those available for that purpose (i.e. rack)?

[edit] I think Jeep more or less answered this above

There was…(but it was not customer focused)

BCC

the best of their sets can rival any set out there
People hated their chips while they were open. QC issues aside, the majority of people felt the feel of BC chips were inferior to any Paulson chips.

This hobby simply wants what it can’t have.

I'll take late run BCC's over just about anything else. They corrected both the printing, inlays, and weight issues. My last order direct from Mike Endy was unrivaled in every aspect....feel, sound, weight, inlay blah blah blah etc. They made my earlier run of CDI's look like trash...which frankly they were imo in comparison. Also nothing I've handled yet comes close to the T-mold; unfortunately.

Not to slam CPC

I had BCC CDI early 200s. At first I didn’t like them as much but once we got them in action and shuffled them with some wear…loved them.

Had no idea there was a Paulson leaded THC version until I joined this site.

I couldn’t agree more.

That’s cool, BCC CDIs were also my chip gateway years ago … and ultimately led me here. Since joining, I’ve added a set of MGK BCCs that are on a completely different realm of existence over the CDIs, and I’d be baffled to read people trashing them, past or present.

What thread are we in, again?

It stinks for those trying to build tournament sets from the cash chips, but I would imagine the order quantities would reflect it best to build cash sets. Almost like a Chip Room sale in a way that the lower denoms will be much more plentiful than the $1k and up chips.
This is what will save me a lot if money. I mostly play tournaments and already have a couple THC cash sets on the go. The hotstamps are cool but I'm not a huge fan of repeating spot patterns.

Exactly this. Can’t exactly order racks and racks of cash $5k and $25k, comparable to quantities of $5s for example, without setting off even more alarm bells.
And totally get this. Makes sense. To be honest its a bit of a relief (for my wallet).

This is totally true! There was a bunch of QC issues right up to the end. I remember it being all over Chiptalk back then. It stopped myself and many others from ordering.
