I am looking into getting a tournament set (for a single table 8 players max) and was wondering what your thoughts are on this setup.

I would like this set to cover both a lower stack rebuys tournament as well as a higher stack freeze out tournament.

I would like this set to also allow for color ups as we progress through the blinds.

Here is what I am thinking.....

125 x 25
125 x 100
125 x 500
125 x 1000
20 x 5000

10k starting stack with rebuys
12/12/7/5

15k starting stack no rebuys
12/12/7/5/1

2k bonus for showing up on time
500 bonus for paying with exact change

Will this work? Am I missing something?

Why not a rack each instead of 125.
Is all you need for yuur starting stacks and looks prettier.

I would consider
125 x 25
125 x 100
100 x 500. (-25)
150 x 1000. (+25)
50 x 5000. (+30)
550 chips total

above If ordering rolls of 25x chips...if you can customize your numbers further

120 x 25
120 x 100
80 x 500
140 x 1000
40 x 5000 (Option +20 for 60 total)
500 chips total, 520 with option

With the above you are covered for 10 (you could deduct 2x starting stacks if your sure 8 is the forever number) players with some rebuy room especially with the extra 5ks, and the extra low denoms to cover your bonus options.

i started with 100 of each but i padded by 25 for color up and rebuys.

plus with a rack of 5k chips, you can have bigger starting stacks
i was looking at buying the Tiki Kings set and their 5k chips are plaques which cost $5 each. so i was limiting it to 20 of them.

I would consider
125 x 25
125 x 100
100 x 500. (-25)
150 x 1000. (+25)
50 x 5000. (+30)

I can do any quantity since i am buying Tikki Kings from BR Pro. Do you think 80 x 500 is enough for color ups and rebuys.

There is really no need for this as you can grab some bigger denominations instead. But of course you are free to do it :-)

With a 12/12/7/5 starting stack you have to essentially maintain colour up value of the played denominations below, however you will only likely remove the t25 and t100 chips from play so if for whatever reason you are short a 1k chip can be exchanged for 2x500 from a player to make change in a rare situation. In general at time up colour ups you exchange out chips for the highest possible value. Personally I avoid exchanging t25 and t100 chips from the table except at colour up.

Knowing now what your ordering and that you want to keep the high cost plaque down consider breakdown like (below), which is enough for 10 players and more than enough for 8. $5 plaques worth 5000value are also working 5x chips worth 1000value at $/each so weigh that math somewhat

25 x120
100. x130
500. x80
1,000 x150
5,000 x20
500 chips total
1 buy in, 2x rebuys and colour ups for 8 players, 1 rebuy if there are 10 players unless you buy 3 more 5k plaques. I recommend 2-4x spares of each denom for loss/breakage and addresses the potential of 2x rebuys per player for a full table easily. Yes you can order more as an add-on but no guarantee on an exact match of blanks/colours if ordered years apart.

this makes a lot of sense. thank you for the detailed explanation and the chart, i really appreciate it.

I wish Tikki kings came with a 5k chip instead of the plaque. i really like the design but it's a bummer to pay $5 for something that could have easily cost $0.70

BRpro can customize the chips in any way youd like, just reach out. Make a 5k chip out of one of their cash designs or whatever.

I am buying a cash set of Tikki Kings as well. my goal is to use .25/1/5 for cash games and use t25/100/500/1000 for cash games. this way if there is a mix up of chips i will know right away by the color on the table.

Use 12/12/5/6/1 = 15k starting stacks (you don't need as many T500s, but will need more T1000s as the tournament progresses). Use 0/0/2/9/1 for 15k re-buys (five total recommended). Required 8-player set:

100 x T25 (96 needed)
100 x T100 (96 needed)
60 x T500 (58 needed)
120 x T1000 (114 needed)
20 x T5000 (18 needed)
-----------
400 chips (with 18 total spares)

Big enough to handle an 8-player 15k stack tournament with up to six re-buys, including all color-ups and bonus chips.

Use T1000s for the T25 and T100 color-ups, and use T5000s for the T500 color-ups.

In general, use less T500 and more T1000.

Sometimes, it's difficult to source the T1k that you need, so you end up compromising a bit with more T500 than is 'optimal'.

But since you are purchasing a stock ceramic design, this shouldn't be a problem.
