I play cash games. I'll play just about any variation of a cash game, but I'm a cash player and that's what my chips have always been for. I've hosted small games with friends and family over the years and I'm certainly comfortable doing that.
I've never hosted a tournament and I've played in exactly 4 over the past 15+ years. One was online back in the Chiptalk days when they ran their own member tourneys (I won!), two were local home games, and one was a small bounty tourney at a casino. I'd like to get a tourney set so I can try running one for friends/family if the opportunity arises. The new 43mm chips seem the perfect candidate.
What I need is a good, SIMPLE, breakdown that's easy to run for a 1 table tournament. I have read back for about 8 pages of tournament threads here and it seems like a structure suggested by BGinGA would work well--T500 that basically uses one rack each of T500, T1000, T5000, T25000. It seems simple and efficient. I'm all about efficient use of chips. Given my inexperience in running tournaments, I don't see more than one table in my near future so that's not a concern.

If I stick with the structure BGinGA suggested, what chips should I get for the 5th rack? I like 500 chip sets, 4 are covered with the racks listed above. I'd like to have some buffer for multiple rebuys but I'm not sure what's the best way to arrange the remaining rack. I'm thinking a few of the 100k chips may be good since the table would have 3 million in chips on it or just more of the 25ks since they are cool. Hell, a barrel of each of those starting 4 and one of 100k might work and it's pleasingly symmetrical. (I know a barrel of 100k would be over kill.)
The other option I was considering was a T100 starting chip but I'm not sure if those options can be as tidy as the T500 listed. The one rack per chip is really a strong selling point for me.
