Considering doing a short deck tournament for my monthly league tournament this week. (36 cards 6 thru A)
Anyone have any experience doing a short deck tournament? Was going to make it 6 max to a table. Pro’s, con’s or advice?

Thanks

We’ve done it a couple times including this past weekend. Most of us don’t love it but it’s nice for a little variety.

I’d recommend deeper starting stacks if you are doing antes — we had everyone post an ante and button posts 2x. We did 20k stacks with antes starting at 25/50 and it felt somewhat close to a standard T10k NLHE tourney.

I haven't done this yet, but I'm hosting one next week and we're using a structure mocked from triton and wsop where each person starts with 3 bullets for the cost of 1 buyin (starting with 1:bullet in play and then gets to use another bullet when felted). So we'll each have 60k chips but only 20k in play to start. Unused bullets treated as add-ons at end of rebuy period. It helps since the "right" play so often in short deck is to shove... Also using antes and double ante for the button like wsop and triton do.
Also 6 max is good. We're doing 6 max with 7 at the final.
The only drawback i see to this is making sure the tournament ends on time but I think the constant antes will keep things moving.

I should add that we did one previously treating it like any other nlhe tournament (blinds instead of antes, 1 bullet) and it wasn't great because you had to play less aggressively than short deck should play for fear of busting after 5 minutes on an inevitable cold deck (feels like most decks in short deck are ice cold)

I've played tons of short deck tournaments on Stars. We tried a few orbits of it at a cash game once. I agree it was a nice change...moves quickly because of the table being short.

Our trouble was that the tourney slowed big time when it got down to 2-3 players. Antes were far less than the stacks. With a few more games under our collective belts, our players will figure out short handed aggression. :)

We do them on our online club from time to time.
Easier to do with an app. Usually just 4-5 seats bc we dont have a ton of interest yet but the guys who play love it.

Live, some dealer buddies and have played shortdeck plo. Its badass and would make for a fun tourney.
