Searching for a new home cash game set (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

I actually stumbled across this forum by chance, and I’m really glad I did. I’m currently looking for ideas for a new cash game set and would really appreciate some inspiration from more experienced collectors here.

I’m also curious about ceramic chips – I’ve never really used them before, but they seem interesting for home games.

We mostly play small stakes, usually €0.25/€0.50 and €0.50/€1.00. Occasionally it goes up to €1.00/€2.00… especially when the guys have had a few too many drinks

Hi neighbour! Do you have a budget in mind? Ceramics (BRPro or Tinas for example) range from 50 Cents to 1€ per chip. Clays like Paulson can be significantly more expensive.

Welcome to PCF! Clay is king but comes at a cost. But, with patience, you can find excellent deals on some nice Paulson sets and even better deals on older vintage chips from ASM and BCC.

I want a pure cash game set, since we basically only play cash games now. I’ll probably need around 700 chips.

Ceramics: Pros: easier to customize at more reasonable fees if that's important to you. Cons: tend not to hold their value - i.e. you will likely sell at a loss if you ever upgrade. Another con: casino-used ceramics tend to be very worn. Cheap retail products like the Scrolls tend to have durability issues.

I personally don't like them because of how they sound and they get slippery after a while. But that's a personal preference more than anything.

I encourage you to think about whether you want a retail product mean for private games (like something you can buy on Amazon) or if you want casino-used chips. Is some level of customization important to you? If so, to what degree? Consider your budget - that drives a lot of the discussion. What do you want to spend all-in?

Do you only host cash games or tournaments too? If so you'll want separate sets for each so they don't co-mingle.

Customization isn’t really a priority for me – the chips just need to feel right and look good. Anything in the direction of my Samurais is usually appealing to me; the quality on those is simply top notch.


We also had ceramic chips in a casino in Vienna that I really liked in terms of feel and sound, so I’m currently leaning more towards that kind of set. That said, if I come across a suitable clay set that I really like, I could definitely be tempted as well.


I’ve only just joined the forum today, and it already looks like I’m going to spend quite a few hours here exploring everything.

What’s your budget? Work in enough money into your budget to buy some samples of brands you’re considering.

There are a bunch of beginner posts around here, take some time to read them.

As much as I'd love to buy those off you, just play 1:100 valuation and your set is perfect. 0.25c, 1$, 5$, 10$ I don't know what your set is missing. You can add some generic plaques or some 5K SP if you can find them. I've got no idea why would want to change that.

They have a lot of different chips and cases and can for sure help you to get set up with a nice combo. I’d highly recommend you jump on a monthly group buy of “Tina Chips”. They are relatively cheap and have some generic designs that would still be unique to your game. You can also fully customize the labels and colors and edge spots if you want.

I own full custom clay chips, full custom premium ceramics from BR Pro, Poker, and soon to be two set ups of “Tina chips”. The real clays are over 20 years old and were my first real set of poker chips. I use them a lot! When I got them, I was younger and we were having weekly games. Like clay chips at a casino, though at much lesser extent, they pick up grime from people fingers are not and are not as easy to clean. This isn’t gonna be an issue for most, but it was for me.

Because of that I started looking at ceramic chips, which can be easily washed. For the last four years my BR Pro chips are what I use primarily in my now monthly game. About once a year or sooner, if I’m having a lot of games and they start to pick up a smell, I throw them all in a bucket of soapy water, and let them sit overnight. Then I rinse them off and dry them.

I haven’t done this yet with my Tina hybrid chips, but I imagine I can be done.

Either way ceramics are gonna be anywhere from 1/3 to 1/10 the price of custom clay chips or a set of Paulson clay chips. For $.47 a chip you can get the taste of a nicer chip before you commit to what you want… Even if you want something more.

Also understand that most people here are chip collectors and are thinking of things in the terms of resale value. For me, I’ve never had any interest in collecting chips. I’m only interested in personalized custom chips for practical purpose of playing my games. Resale is not something I ever cared about as my chips will go to my kids.

You absolutely can. But be warned - when you walk in there you will be tempted to walk out with a lot of stuff you did not necessarily intend to buy, even if it is just a few more sample sets . Maybe give him a call before you go there, to be sure they are there.
