It’s that time of year again... it’s my Say Something Nice Giveaway! Here’s what you could win...

212582

...Here’s how it works... this is a great community, with awesome members, but we often focus on negatives... so this giveaway will focus on the positives. Positive impacts people have made in your lives, positive experiences with chip transactions, or a member that has helped you out time and again with whatever... or inspired you in some way... So, in this thread you have the opportunity to nominate TWO forum members who have made a positive impact on you. Sometime before the MTTD in May, I’ll assign numbers publically to every nominator and randomly draw to see who wins. The person who nominated will get a small token (maybe a FT dealer button or something like that), but the two they nominated will get one of the prize lots pictured above (randomly assigned or they can declare). I know many will have a hard Time limiting their nominations to just two members, but my prize locker is limited, so only two “official” nominations will be accepted.

RULES

1- Post in this thread. Nominate up to two current members. You can include honorable mentions, but the two nominees must be clearly identifiable.
2- Nominations MUST include at least three sentences describing why the nominated member is deserving (say something nice about them).
3- If someone has nominated you, they are not eligible to be nominated BY you (other than an honorable mention).
4- I am NOT eligible to be nominated.
5- Nominees must be @tagged by placing a @ before their user name, this way they get notified you said something nice about them.
6- Nominations failing to meet ALL of these rules (including #2) will not count. Seriously folks, how hard is it to say something nice about someone. If you don’t see your name in Post #3, your nomination likely isn’t three sentences...
7- I reserve right to change, cancel, modify this giveaway (including prizes) for any reason.

A bonus prize. Invariably we will get some members nominated multiple times. The member who gets nominated the most will have the 2019 MTTD main event tourney and trophy named in their honor (for having such an impact on so many people). Hey, it doesn’t cost me anything to name the event after someone. :) Last Year’s event was named in honor of Sal, so you’d be in good company.

Ok, here’s an example of an acceptable submission:

I nominate @Jeff for his amazing dedication to this forum. He has worked tirelessly as a moderator, even when it hasn’t been popular. He also hosts an amazing meetup in July, which allows so many forum members to gather and socialize. Jeff is also the first to give when a member is in need, and he has more than once helped me with clutch chip acquisitions.

Ok, here’s an example of a submission that won’t qualify (even though technically 3 sentences):

I nominate Jeff. He’s a great dude and made me feel welcome. Thanks Jeff.

Good Luck folks!

@Ray-Col I know he hasn't been active lately, but Rainer is super helpful with his renders. He helped me feel confident about my color choices for my CPC and did it free of charge. I sent him a free sample set for his help since he was so helpful. He refused to take payment and is happy to help the community. His renders are amazing and I couldn't thank him enough. I'm not sure where he's been but hopefully he's crushing his home games with his HOF caliber Metronome set.

@p5woody he helped design my felt and inlays for my set. Steve helped a ton with all the variations and tests for not only my felts, but for the inlay design as well. He is very friendly and happy to help those who ask him. His designs are amazing and I wish nothing but the best for him, as I know he's taking a design hiatus due to health issues.

Is it too late for me to do something nice so I can get nominated? :D

But seriously, this place is fantastic! Despite little bits of acrimony here and there, I've never been part of a more inclusive and helpful online community. And this thread is a great microcosm of PCF. Good feels for everyone!

@Gear, for working with me on my upcoming spirit mold label design. He's been patient with me with my busy life, and subsequent slow communication. He also is working with me on completing my Majestic tourney set, and bounty labels.

@zo121179, who hooked me up with a great deal on his Nexgens so I have some chips to play with while working on the aforementioned spirit mold project. Also, he threw in my first barrel of Paulson THC's (PCA $5's). Plus, he's the first (and only) PCF'er I've met in person. Iowa folks represent!

@Trihonda, edited to include three sentences. ;)

@detroitdad His posts about his chips were just so cool, that I started thinking about upgrading my own set. His enthusiasm and encouragement took me deeper down the rabbit hole. Then, when he started posting pics of whiskies, well . . . I was already doing reviews as a hobby, so it brought me back when the chipping had faded somewhat.

@CdnBeerLover Very informative posting history. Personally, he has always been very complimentary towards me (whether deservedly or not is another story) with respect to my cards fetish. In that regard, he is equally knowledgeable and generous with that education, which makes things easier on members looking for information about something other than chips.

Thanks TH. Very generous of you!

I nominate @sir bluffs alot. Chuck was recently down in Florida (we are from the Philly area) for his daughter's softball tournament. While down there, he found a chip pick for 1000 chips for a set I needed, drove 40 miles to meet the seller (who wouldn't ship), and brought the chips back with him on the flight. With all the craziness of life, he thought enough to consider my chipping needs and went out of his way to get it done. He is an excellent chipper and an even better friend. Chuck definitely should be recognized for his selflessness. Thank you!

I nominate @BSteck. I haven’t been on this forum long and this members thoughtfulness really resonated with me. I was posting on a thread looking to put together a mixed casino set. Somewhere along the line of messages I mentioned that I was considering a pink or yellow frac 0.25 chip. BSteck took it upon himself to reach out and give me a shot at a set of Pioneer Club pink quarters that he was going to post on classifieds. He went out of his way to help a fellow chipper and I was blown away with the generosity. Chips arrived and I couldn’t be happier! Thanks B!

I nominate @BGinGA. He goes above and beyond to answer my random questions about chipping and doesn't spare any details to ensure that I get a comprehensive answer. His knowledge is second to none and he's always happy to share that wealth of knowledge. I appreciate all of the insight he has provided me.

I also nominate @Gear. He does a fantastic job with labels, but is also a stand up guy. He has helped with various chipping needs over the years and provided sound advice on designs.

Thank you for the kinds words, sir!

I’d like to nominate it forward to @Gear. Without his dedication and skills we wouldn’t be able to have so much fun dreaming up our ultimate chippie sets. So many times you see a thread where someone is putting together a mixed or custom set and members casually post “and then get some labels from Gear”. Well if he wasn’t here in to community doing his great work then so many of our projects wouldn’t even be able to be considered and this hobby wouldn’t be nearly as fun. Thanks Gear!
(this is also a shameless attempt to get my project bumped up in his queue :whistle: :whistling:)

I have been looking for a playable set of Mardi Gras v2b cash set for about 4 years. I never bought one from holdempokerchips because of the edge spot problem with the ones. In August, out of the blue. @joker80 reaches out to me and offers to sell me his set at cost (which is lower than HPC current pricing). Probably half of the chips have never hit the felt.

Thank you.

@joker80 gets my first nomination.

The chore of this give away is limiting it to two members.

@DrStrange gives tireless in-depth replies to any strategy thread that is posted. Stack sizes, players in question, he doesn't miss commenting on the situation as a whole ever. His opinions differ from mine from time to time, but when they do, I pause and consider his perspective and come to appreciate it all the same. That's the sign of him being a very thorough, thoughtful, and above all else, respected individual.

I would like to nominate all these people, because I cannot follow your rules. Maybe you can use it for a tie breaker.

So yeah, too many to say "this one or that one", lots of heart here, thank you all

T

I have way too many to thank, but narrowing it down to two it would be:

@Gear he helped me with designing my first semi-custom labels this year. He went way beyond with dealing with my indecisiveness. I know its a transaction, but he was the model for customer service. Could not have been more helpful. He also did the labels for my second semi-custom set this year. Which brings me to.....

@p5woody - he helped me design my tournament set labels. I went to him with a picture of a boat and a story, he led me to a label that I think is perfect. He did all of it while going through some health things. He was super responsive, creative and helpful. I couldn't have had a better experience or result.

I know these were popular choices, but it really meant a lot to me. Thanks guys!

Just two :eek:

I'm going to have to go with...

@Gunnar - He hosted the most vacation-worthy meet-up of all time. He provided as many rooms as possible for weary travelers, and stupendous dinners to boot. He went out of his way to act as tour guide to take members around the island, proving that a meet-up can be more than poker - it is sharing the world with people that would never have experienced it without him.

@David O - He has had the worst possible year of his life, but he never let it tear him down. Even when the muck was being tossed about, every single post he made carried a certain level of optimism that I only wish I could emulate. If more people acted like David, the world would be a much greater place - even though he is a scary clown

@Gunnar 's mom. It's indirectly about @Gunnar but his mom gave up her house to let gunnar use it to host the meetup. She still showed up every day and cooked us amazing meals. Super nice person, she got drunk with us playing Chinese poker the night before we flew out and was pulling out her husband's whiskey collection for us to try.

@ekricket Picked us up at the airport at 5 am in Iceland! Wow, can't say thanks enough. What an amazing person! Shuttled us around in their rental all week. Refused to take any money towards the cost of the rental. Said it was poker karma. Well it's poker karma for him to win something!

@Mr Tree
@ChaosRock
@bentax1978

These three get a joint writeup.

This last year I worked through cancer treatment, enduring 8 cycles through 6 months. In addition, I had 3 surgeries, meningitis, and countless other fun days! Everyone needs support, and these three extraordinary people were there almost every day for me. Most of the time it was goofing off via texts or PMs, but sometimes it was really meaningful things. Meaningful like this:

Have no idea how these guys found three random drug addicts to model the hats, but it was the best day of my treatment.

I'll second the nomination for @sir bluffs alot, ulterior motives aside (stopping at Levante for beer!) He has gone out of his way to either meet me on my turf or drop chips off at my house before even discussing payment. Thanks Chuck.

I'll also nominate @allforcharity because not only does he do a lot for his community and the PCF community, he has been incredibly generous in helping me with my side project while asking nothing in return. An all around good guy. Thanks Berny.

I'm quite surprised and flattered that my name has turned up anywhere near this thread. I only hope that I can live up to the kind words that have been said, and will redouble my efforts to do well for this digital community as well as the people around me in the local community.

Many and more deserve to be recognized, but the top person I want to thank is @T_Chan , Tony "Jabrony", the Chanman, the builder of dreams in the shape of custom tables, tireless game host, and valued supporter of all my fundraising parties. Long may you run, buddy!

Also, a big shout out to @navels , who helped me immensely in relocating certain chips from Montana which ultimately became my unintended grail set, and supplier of CDI98 to me like a proper drug dealer, the kind that I'm supposed to be. Keep scoring the big scores, and may we continue to benefit from your largesse!

Thanks TH. Very generous of you!

Thanks bud. It’s what we do. Getting chips out of the hands of the ignorant and into the hands of those who truly appreciate them.

@gopherblue For taking a novice chipper under his master tutelage and for being a good friend. I got to learn many fascinating things about chipping, poker, manufacturing, Reno, TRK and more that would have taken me much longer otherwise if at all.

@Esection For being a great game host and bringing the NYC crowd together. Living in NYC can be a serious grind and it is hard to make the space for free time and to open your home to not just friends but strangers alike. He does both generously.

Honerable mention to a specific group of non-forum members. The spouses who put up with all of this.

Thanks! Lol, that’s a nice way of saying that every time we get together I chew your ear off, and you patiently nod and smile, while glancing at your watch. o_O

Thanks Brian. It’s the least I could do after being invited to such a fun game a few weeks ago.

And I in turn would like to nominate @MegaTon44 . From the very start of my burgeoning obsession with chipping, Dan was there. At first, just with tons of information, with links to cool info, with approximate values, etc. Then he invited me and a bunch of my friends to his monthly game. I don’t know if anyone that plays there realizes it or not, but Dan is a pretty freaking good poker player. He could probably cleanup the entire game each week, but instead, he really only plays to fill an open seat, instead, giving up his seat time and again for any player that is waiting. He supplies food, drink and hospitality, takes zero rake, and just asks that the players tip the dealers (who are freaking amazing) and take care of them.

Lastly, while he was hosting 30 players at his game, he set up his ultrasonic cleaner, showed me how to do it, then helped me clean several hundred chips. Dan is a true man for others.

Man, Paulo looks a lot different from how I remember him....

@Mental Nomad for introducing me to the community (being the first chipper I ever met in person) and being a super generous, amiable guy. He once picked me up and drove me back to the train station (15 mins each way) so I could attend his game. Doesn't sound like a lot but in the NE it is.

@SemiNumerical for being an all around good guy and non-weird dude. 2nd chipper I ever met and am privileged to have gone from being internet friends to IRL friends.
