chiproom found a metric shitton of primary and secondary chips in barrels. He's at a wedding and will be back soon. Samples on sale this sunday.
 
I think that flipping Jims chips has a pretty big risk, if someone wants to dump a bunch of money thinking they are automatically going to heavily profit, that takes some balls. I imagine you would have to sit on them for about a year to really turn a profit.

I am not sure what the “high end” eBay market really is, but it seems to me those chips sit up there for a long time. It seems to me that we are the only circus in town.

Money talks.

Jim does a pretty good job at making it really expensive to “flip” what he thinks are the truly valuable chips. He also seems to put in a “dirty work clause” where if someone wants that extra possible profit, they have to take a bunch of the common chips and piece them out.

He also makes some premade sets with the good gravy for people who can afford them.

I think at the heart of it, Jims seems willing to take get paid less to make a payday and have some free time in his life, and if someone wants to spend the time and effort nickel and diming for the margin while not making many friends, god bless them.

Jim is probably the most loved member of the forum, because of this model, it works pretty well, if all I saw when I got here was a bunch of boat flippers I would have passed and bought some China clay.

Oh, and you guys are fear mongers, acting like flippers ruin new chippers mojo. It’s not true, when a big haul come in from Jim, the 1s 5s 25s and sometimes the 100s sit on the shelf for sale for months, long enough for anyone to build a playable set.

I can’t stop kicking myself for not buying up the PCA leftovers when I first got here, they hung there forever and I didn’t buy anything til the grand vics came, and they hung around forever too. You could buy jack 100s for like a year after they went on sale...

By the looks of that first barrel, there’s going to be enough 1s for everybody to build a limit set for each of their cousins.

Heres my experience.

  • I read a subscribed thread and then jump off PCF.
  • If someone posts to that thread while I am away, I get a notification. It could be 1 new post or it could be 100 new posts, I only get one notification.
  • If I log back in and read the new posts to the subscribed thread, it goes back to step 1. But if I log in but do not read the new post before jumping off, I don't get any new notifications for that thread unless/until I manually click and reae the new content...then notices resume.

ah but in this case it's been many days so I've definitely been logged out and there have been new posts in this thread.

Normally it's not the end of the world if I miss a few PCF posts. Well okay it is the end of the world. But it's really the end of the world if I miss posts in this thread because, well, this thread is special

China clays aren't going to increase in value. They are a nice chip to play with your sloppy friends but that's about it. Paulsons will continue to increase in value or keep their value at the very least. If you're just looking for chips to play and don't mind quality or resale value stick with the China clays.

There's no guarantee that even Paulson's will maintain all of their original sale value. They'll probably hold the majority of their value, but there are plenty of recent examples of Chip Room chips that sell for less than their original on sale price. See: Jack primary 25s, secondary 100s

Tourneys that start with T$5 do work (starting stacks of STT: 15/13/??/? 50% more players with same number of 5s and 25s: 10/6/??/?)

You can get a nice set for a good price

Buy 5s 25s 100s and 1s

Relabel the 1s as 500s (or 1000s if you can afford some 500s)

It was a little a weird, but if you are hanging around here you can pick up who may give you some good advice. I reached out to a bunch of folks in PMs to ask questions about sets, and grateful for their responses. Also I do get how some wouldn't be comfortable doing that.

In my limited time here, the flipping anger has been targeted almost exclusively at the NAGB chips, and some poor bugger who had a few racks of Ysabel $2s.

Still a little shocked that some Paulson Rep isn't hanging out here, taking back the info that they could run off a couple million chips and easily sell for 2-3x what they are being paid by casinos. How's that not worth a run or two every other year?

Was reading an article about the Angel - GPI merger and noted this in the article:

"GPI said in its latest annual report – issued in March – it posted net income of US$3.7 million for full calendar year 2018, compared to a profit of US$3.6 million a year earlier."

I haven't bothered to look up their annual report to see the underlying numbers but that NI number is surprising low.

The world is already in or heading towards a massive recession. This has already had an impact on casinos and will continue to have a major impact on casinos for the foreseeable future. And that goes downstream to their suppliers (GPI). GPI may need to explore markets (home market) they've been ignoring to boost their bottom line. Even retail fantasy sets would be welcomed. Perhaps Jim could leverage his connections within GPI and get something like a Desert Palms V2 to market.

When net income is only ~$3.6MM and it's going to potentially take a nose dive for the next couple of years, suddenly a few million home chips on an unused molds (BCC) looks a bit more inviting.

Maybe a silver lining with the current shitty circumstances we're all living in right now.

Very few casinos "close" a good majority of them get bought out. That means good business for GPI because acquisitions mean rebranding. Rebranding means new chips. Just like the casinos in Cape Girardeau and Caruthersville in Missouri. They were both bought out by Century. Century then rebranded them as their name sake and tossed all the old chips to Jim and bought all new "Century" Paulson's. Some of which look great btw but anyway. An economic downturn doesn't exactly mean it always gets passed down the supply chain. I'd be interested to see what their income has been in 2019 and 2020. I bet we would be surprised.

Everytime a casino changes hands, Jim and the rest of pcf rubs their hands in anticipation but...so does Paulson.

This covid downturn is a total different beast. Every casino brand was shuttered for a period. Not just a situation where a few locations did poorly and presented an opportunity for another company to Swoop in and rebrand. I wouldn't count on all shuttered casinos simply rebranding. These companies have lost hundreds of millions.

Although with these closures it presents opportunity for Jim to bring these chips to market.

This is true, but very rare. Ten years down the road I bet the values of those chips have risen though.
