Congrats!

Fact: Many of the coolest Riverside TRK chips pre-dated Pick Hobson's

Opinion: I might need to work on a new set!
Nice! BTW, the first two pics are not actual Riverside chips, but TRK manufacturer samples. Last one is an error chip, missing the third spot.

But I agree...I’m partial to the earlier Riversides myself….

The Riverside Casino building would have been demolition in 1997, but a local Sierra Arts Foundation joined with a developer (who specialized in historic properties) to convert the original hotel rooms into 35 low-income artist lofts. The west addition was demolished, and the renovated Riverside re-opened in 2000 with the offices of Sierra Arts and other retail ventures occupying the ground floor. At the moment there are no lofts available to rent.

<Realizing how incredibly out of my depth I am with respect to TRK's>

Don't care.... they look cool AF, stack like bricks, and now I have so much more to learn!

Fact: Whomever wins this giveaway, I’d be grateful if I could trade a couple other Riverside chips for the pink hundo, as I’m closing in on completing a full rack.
I can do that. I'll trade you the whole package, plus another two red solid 25c chips (that are NOT crossed out) that I've picked up along the way. I like the Riversides, but you like them more.

FACT:
These chips belongs to me.

Fact: Clare Boothe (award-winning author, editor of Vanity Fair, congresswoman and ambassador) stayed there when she arrived in Reno in 1929 to divorce her husband George Tuttle Brokaw: "Her train arrived in Reno at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 1929, in a fierce blizzard. Clare's mood turned bleak as the weather when she discovered that her reserved apartment at the Riverside Hotel (a red brick building between the Truckee River and the courthouse) was occupied and that she would have to settle for a 'cubby hole' of a room for the first three days."

Fact: one of the rarest $2.50 Nevada chips is this half-moon LCrown chip (~4-5 known to exist).

Huh. Cool.

Any idea how many there are of the related $5?

Fact: I cannot fathom why people are so enamored of chips with pictures of Granny on them.

Congrats @RivieraDanny on having wasted so much time posting here. :)

Well aware I already entered but was genuinely interested.

Curious if it has a picture of Richard "Pick" Hobson. I have not been able to find one anywhere, not sure why I care but just one of those things.

Ben - I spent some time looking for a photo of Hobson, but I couldn’t find one either. It seems strange that there aren’t any pictures of such a prominent person of Reno’s hotel and gaming history. I did find a couple of obituaries. Interestingly, he died “broke” and lived in a trailer home at the end of his life.

From the Las Vegas Sun:

Reno Gaming Pioneer “Pick Hobson” Dies

Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Hobson died Monday at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was 85.
Born in Illinois on May 15, 1911, Hobson grew up in Corning, Calif., and came to Reno in 1929 and witnessed the legalization of gaming.
He owned and operated 10 clubs and casinos during his 45 years in the Reno gaming industry. He was also a rancher.
Hobson purchased the Riverside in 1978 and operated it until it fell into bankruptcy and closed in 1986.
"In the end he got caught trying to keep too many things going," said Hobson's longtime friend, Warren Nelson, owner of the Club Cal-Neva. "After that he kept a low profile. Naturally, it broke his heart."
Following the bankruptcy, Hobson retired to his trailer home on 17 acres in nearby Beckwourth, Calif.
Surviving are his widow, Diana of Beckwourth, and daughter Aprylle Ilynn of East Wareham, Mass.
Private inurnment was planned at a later date.
