Are you advocating they play the $50 buyin game as 1/1 or bigger or do you suggest they raise the buyin? I'm guessing doing either would kill the game in short order ;)

My vote is for everyone to have a barrel of quarters to start. One barrel of $1's. and the rest in Reds ($5). It's easy. Rebuys in $5's.

For those that indicate that this might be too many quarters... Well, sure someone might wind up with a few barrels of quarters after a while.

However, to start, this is only 2.5 barrels of total chips per person around the table. In a juicy cash game, I don't think having two total barrels of chips in front of you is too many.

Keep the quarters to a minimum. Keep in mind that there will always be change in the middle. Just make sure that when someone needs said change they keep their single chip in front of them and the dealer be the one to make it. The only thing I hate more than a pot full of quarters is a shit load of busy hands...

No. I'm simply being facetious.

(sorry)

Hard to play the OPs .25/.50 game without them

Not if you can multiply and divide by four, when people buy in and cash out.

When I've ditched most of my chips, the only quarters left are going to be the Colony Clubs, and them mostly for show. I'd simply rather play the games at 1/2.

Having the same amount of quarters as singles on the table just seems silly to me. At least singles are used throughout the hand, quarters generally only hit the table preflop and when someone is all in. To each his own, just seems like the desire for that many quarters is purely pregame cosmetics.

Looks like MOAR won by a large margin. TY for voting.

You don't have most of the table betting $4.75 rather than $5. There are nights I'll be the only one betting in whole dollars.
Our local 25c/50c cash game had a rule: "No Stupid Bets"
Post-flop, quarters were not allowed to be wagered unless all-in. Made things so much simpler for the dealer, and quicker for the game. Also significantly lessened the need for quarters -- 100 was plenty for the whole table.

My vote is for everyone to have a barrel of quarters to start.
Perfect for 5-handed play. ;)

I agree with no stupid bets. Quarters are for blinds, but we should play A LONG TIME!! I also hate making change from active pots even though this is the norm for most. The extra $2 in quarters isn't going to kill anyone. That said, I have no problem with the following line up for a $50 buy in:

#20 $0.25
#20 $1
#5 $5

I know Dave and some of the other experienced players are "correct", but I like it this way. just my $0.25...

I don't feel there is a "correct" answer for everyone. It all depends on what your players like and how many you can afford. If you're on a budget 100 is plenty for one table, saving $$ for higher denoms ($1 and $5s) if you have the cash without having to sacrifice a good breakdown of those chips then by all means get as many fracs as you fracking want :)

Very much this.
One rack works just fine, but if you have the spare cash you might as well get another one. I prefer spending the rest of the budget for higher denoms, but if I had a bigger budget I would surely get another rack of my lowest denom as well. You could also do a split rack of fracs and another denom. Splitting a rack 40/60, 50/50 or 60/40, would give you a total of 140, 150 or 160 fracs, which is also viable options, and you could give the firs 7-8 players a barrel each and the rest can make change. works great for nights were you are not full 9 handed as well.
