Recording Live Hand Histories (2 Viewers)

Trying to get better at Poker by playing more deliberately and less on instinct - whatever that means. Number one thing I want to do is be able to write down some of my hand histories for later review and possible discussion on this very forum. For those of you that play live, how do you go about it?

I feel bewildered at the thought of remembering the details of a whole hand from start to finish* - I struggle to remember my hole cards from one street to the next. Is it just practice? Do you take notes after every street? How do other players react? I downloaded a poker keyboard for my phone to see if that helps. I presume you don’t write on paper..?

*In my defense I’m also usually hosting— making sure folks know the action is on them, checking bet/call sizes, etc…

Practice makes perfect for sure. One thing that certainly helps for speedy note taking is adding a hand history keyboard to your phone. Makes taking notes in shorthand much quicker.

Yep - this is the one I found earlier this week. God to know my app choosing skills are on point.

I use the app "poker bankroll tracker".
You basically just input your hand, the board and betting and you get a complete hand history for the big hands of the night that you can play back over and over again to see how you butchered a very simple spot.

Trust me, you’re not alone. I find it amazing/funny the detail that some go into regarding all of the details (hero vs villain, how much each bet, how much each had left, what hand each held, the flop, the turn….. I can see this if it was a HUGE hand maybe.

Idk. May be I’m just old or some people have photographic memories or are actually recording!!! Haha

When I get to play regularly, I find that being aware of these details - specific players/tendencies, positions, stack sizes, bet sizes, actions, board cards, and other random details - come MUCH more easily and are the biggest difference between when I play well and am “sharp” and when I don’t play well and don’t know why.

When I have long breaks between sessions (weeks/months) I can sit at the table and feel like I’m struggling to really dial in to the game beyond the basics - I know what I’m missing out on.

I agree that paying attention to details are clearly part of the game if you want to improve and be successful. Guess I’m just much more of a recreational player now.

Oh I’m a rec too, just competitive with a strong dislike for poor decision making processes and an even stronger dislike for losing money
