I need 16 rebuy chips. I mean I don't 'need' them - I have some nondenominated DDLM chips I could use as rebuy chips. But if somebody has some cool rebuy chips that I want to buy, then I need 16 rebuy chips.

I never understood rebuy chips but this is funny. Is because u only get 1?
You get only 1 when the tournament has a 1 rebuy limit. Bust out early and turn in your 1 rebuy chip for another stack.
It's just a way to keep track of who has bought in again and who hasn't, and prevent someone from attempting more than once.

In the tournament I’m using them for, each person can rebuy twice, or rebuy once and addon once. I could keep track with pen and paper, but it’s easier for them to just hand me a chip with the cash. When you have no rebuy chips left, you’re done.

The 20 scrub donkey ones I bought here are available for sale, if anybody's interested. Great chips. 43mm. But hosting tournaments is for the birds.

No, lol, your analysis of hosting was based on a sample of one (event). I meant to include a smiley face. :cool

Fair. But it's not my first time hosting a tournament (maybe my 4th! Boom!) and I've hosted enough cash games to be able to tell the difference.

There's a bigger urgency to fill all the seats with a tournament.
There's an urgency to get people in the seats on time.
There are technical issue - keeping a clock running (or paused) and keeping it properly displayed.
Breaks have to be scheduled and have to be kept on time.
As host, you're busy during the breaks doing colorups.
Chip management in general (including color ups rebuys and addons) is more complicated than in a cash game.
People get knocked out and go home - game ends earlier.

That's just off the top of my head. It's different, it's more, and it's a pain in the butt. Basically it increases my stress instead of decreasing it (isn't that what hobbies are supposed to do?) Believe me, I'm a tournament guy - it's a decision made quickly, but not lightly. Hosting tournaments is not for me.
