1 table, 8 single players, 1 married couple. Midway into rebuy period: 1 limper, Husband at 75% stack raises with a weak hand, Wife (also 75% SS) jams. Blinds and limper folds. Why would the Husband ever fold here? Call, and he increases both his stack and his wife's stack.

Same situation, but with players not married: if man calls, he likely increases the stack of an opponent. While his free reload will also increase his own stack, his opponent now has over a 50% chip advantage on him. This does not matter if it were a cash game, but tournaments pay out differently.

Sure, but it is no different then a freeze out in terms of chip dumping. If every player has 3 stacks to do with what they please and can put them in play at anytime it is really just a freezeout with some special rules.

If each stack is worth 10k. Husband doubles wife up to 15k husband reloads for 10 or 20k. Everyone else on the table still has a stack size of (or option to increase to) 30k.

So just like a freezeout. One player has chip dumped to the other, but it should be noted that both players did not increase their stack size. One of the players has a shorter stack size than the rest of the field and one larger.

Edit: I would add that if I ever had a game where I found two players colluding (cash or tournament) I would insta kick them out and never invite them again

I get it now . I missed the one line indicating the rebuy chips could be "redeemed at any time". With that in mind, no rebuy chips are ever actually worthless, because everyone redeems their rebuy chips.

As for friendly game couples collusion - I've developed an algorithm to help suss possible collusion. Once, we caught it right at the table (he obviously knew the logic of the angle, she just blondely agreed). It took a bit of explaining why it was wrong. The other couple... we know who they are, and we watch them hawkishly now. I don't think it's an angle shoot with them, it's just their honest personalities. Still, they are typically started now at separate tables, and they've been made aware of the evils of soft-playing.

That said, in the original sidetrack I thought that the rebuy chips were only good if felted. In that case, it would be difficult - if not impossible - to prevent chip dumping, because it would be the only logical choice. Redeemed at any time is the difference maker here, and a big one. :coffee:
