Hey all,

Been messing around with some (very rough) mockups for different chip designs

This mockup is themed after my adopted hometown Astoria, Queens, NY. On June 15th, 1904, the steamboat PS General Slocum set fire and sunk in the East River just off what is now Astoria Park. There’s a commemorative plaque my wife and I always see on our walks around the park. What do we think of the design? It can use a whole lot of work, just a rough work for now in procreate. I’m still learning illustrator.

I tried one color palette that is some more muted, spooky-ish, perhaps old-timey pastels. The other palette uses a red and yellow that somewhat match the flowers present in the Queens borough crest. I liked the concept but the boat and text in all black and white felt a bit boring so I tried adding the flowers directly to the design to see if I could make it more interesting without being too busy. Obviously, this set would be for our very micro stakes cash games. Let me know what you think concept-wise! Used a couple options from the hybrid molds with custom sticker options. Not looking to buy now since my other set just came lol in but throwing some stuff together is always fun.

Historical photos of the Slocum for reference.Maybe not 1:1 likeness but this clip art fit the design the best

Hey, a fellow Astorian!

I think the design without the flowers is cleaner and less cluttered, but also maybe too plain. Maybe if the flowers were next to the denomination instead of next to the boat?

Too bad you can’t incorporate the Hell Gate Bridge, because it didn’t even exist at the time of the Slocum disaster.
