Sitting Out
Recently picked up this gorgeous piece of history. Published in 1981, Ulvis Alberts shared his first two years of visiting Binions and capturing the WSOP.
I’ve had my eye on the market for a copy of this for 6+ years. Only found 1-2 available but priced 2-4k and one of those was paperback (still on eBay)
I got this copy for a steal and the history of it sounds pretty fun and worth sharing. Usually when a copy hits the market, the owner will have a few fun poker stories to share but not this time. “I don’t play. Never have.”
Why would you own this book if you never played poker? Makes no sense. Well this woman had a job as an editor back in the 1980s for a newspaper called “Poker Player”
Her memory was that Ulvis sent an autographed copy and somehow she ended up with it and it sat in her closet until she put it up for sale.
I’ve sent that story and these photos to Ulvis Albert’s website incase there is a small chance he remembers some of those old details. I’ve seen some autographed copies before and the auto is much smaller than this full page version and it usually has a number with it. Pretty fun.
Hope yall enjoy these photos and a peek back at poker 45 years ago.
