Gotta love falling down the rabbit hole doing research, as it only makes the decision harder. So I’m looking for a set of 700 chips, and my budget is around 300-350.

Some of the research I did led me to the Majestics from Apache. They are at the top of my budget which is okay and my only real concern is the smell. I am a little sensitive to smell and we’ll be playing in a basement.

I started looking at alternatives without this concern and they seem to be all cheaper with issues like rough edges or slippery stacks. I definitely want a step up from the chips I’ve used in the past, which I would say are just a small step up from those dice chips.

I wish I had time to order samples, but my game is in less than 2 weeks on the 15th. So I’m a little torn here. Any recommendations or potentially other sets I’ve missed? Thank you for any help you can offer.

I bought a 400pc T100 tourney set of these chips. Very nice for being sluggos. They have great quality control with no flashing, have vibrant colors, stack well, and not that slick (except for the T5000 chips).

Could get 700 of these for ~$100 including shipping. If your game grows you can buy more and still be under budget. I personally like these more than China Clays, the later being very slick, brittle to where they break more easily and are prone to flea bites, and chalky to where you need to apply mineral oil to make the colors pop more.

Well I guess your biggest problem is going to be time and making a quick decision usually ends up in spending double. Clear advice as it should be in any situation. BUY SAMPLES!! It will save you loads of hastle in the long run and you don´t buy something you end up not liking.
Another advice on that note. If you think now, that Paulsons are to expensive, then DON'T buy samples for them, as it´ll end up like with everybody else where Paulson is the only real Option left and money isn´t a real matter.
If you have any way to borrow a set to use then I´d strongly advice you to buy the samples of at least one of each production type, so you can decide for yourself if for you china clays, matsuis, bud jones, clay composite, metal slug, whatever. In the end saving 200$ and having something that dosn´t satisfy you is not the right way to go. And 14 days isn´t the timespan it´s going to take to get what´s perfect for you :)

+1 on these. They look nice, feel good, and stack well (other than the 5000’s—for some reason they’re very slick).

My guys like them a lot. Fantastic for the price. Best cheap sluggos out there, IMO. I believe the Outlaws and Lucky Horseshoes are the same material.

I’ll recommend them, despite a few minor downsides:
  • slippery 5000’s
  • I have two colors of gold 1000’s. The difference is slight, but noticeable.
  • Consistency could be an issue.
  • There is a slight smell when I open the case, but I don’t notice it once they’re out.
  • I’m not a fan of the 13.5g weight.

Those Monaco chips looks great for $3/roll of 25chips.

okay you guys have convinced me to just go with the ones I really like with the Majestic. Hopefully the smell isn’t too bad. Funny thing is I just opened a poker mat I ordered and that thing had a wild factory smell also. So let’s see how these smells marinate, I’ll make sure to clean the chips first.

Get samples. $30 for few barrels is cheap insurance against having a set you really don't like as much as you thought you would.

The smell was bad enough for me to even be bothered that the samples were still in my closet a year later. So be careful with the china clays.

Any tips? What type of cloth did you use? Going to clean my Majestics as soon as they arrive.
I have the Majestics they are sweet! I used a micro fiber towel. a TINY amount of dishwashing liquid in a bowl of water. You can either hand dry them or let them lie out on a towel or paper towels. If you choose to oil them ( I recommend it) use mineral oil and two microfiber towels. One to compression oil and one to wipe any excess up. Then let them dry the same way AT LEAST or hours before storing. A day would be better.

Thanks for the tips. I actually seen to oil them from apaches website that you can put them in a gallon of water with some mineral oil for about 30 seconds and then dry them on a towel. Not sure which way I’ll do it but I’m definitely going to clean them and oil them.

I did it both ways if you're going to submerge them make sure you press down all the stickers first sometimes there's an air pocket. I had no problem doing them that way with the majestics with the milanos stickers came off with the dunes a few stickers came off You have to be careful. So it depends on the sticker which way you do it but if you want to do it safe do it the compression way
