That doesn't surprise me one bit. Most players don't pay any real attention to the chips. If I do get comments when I put my BCC solid set into play, it's that they are too light. I don't care. I didn't buy the chips to please them.
I saw a post at PC about these...... a pic posted about injection molding, the pics don't show that classic nipple anywhere. a set cheap there I may buy just to see! .27 cent per chip for 1100.
They are "china clay", non slugged injection molded plastic meant to mimic the feel and sound of compression molded clay. The "nipple" is either sanded off, or the injection molding marks are under the stickers.

Agree that there's no evidence of sanding it off at half a buck a chip that seems like a lot of work! I could believe maybe under the sticker. I asked the seller out of curiosity who didn't want to remove a sticker as they were sold. He said that he was sure they weren't clay but they were closer than any other chip in the China clay category.
I may order a sample of them to destroy for myself. Seems they are available at multiple sources.
I have a sample set of these. I removed the sticker from both sides of one. One side was smooth, the other has the remains of a ring inside the recessed area.
Edit: They also have the china clay smell when I hold them under my nose.
