After nearly a year of development, updates, and months of testing, the new PCF Marketplace Auction system is finally here!

Sunday, 8/10 will be the last day to list auctions using the old format. After that, we’ll officially switch to the new Marketplace (MP) Auctions. Before listing an auction in the new system, you’ll need to select the payment methods you accept and enter your details for each one. This is done via your Marketplace dashboard --> Payment details section. (see photo) Your payment information is always kept private. When an auction ends with a winning bidder, you can send your payment details and total with a simple click or tap.

The new auction system uses two bots: @Bid Bot and @Bump Bot.
  • When a bid is placed, @Bid Bot will automatically post about the bid in the auction's discussion thread.
  • @Bump Bot is set to post a reminder 1 hour and 15 minutes before the auction ends.
Sellers will also see an optional "Bump" button on their ad overview page. When used, it will move the listing to the top of the marketplace main page, the auction category page, and create a post in the ad’s discussion thread indicating the bump. After use, the button disappears for 24 hours, in accordance with the one bump per 24 hours rule.

Members can also watch an auction and choose to receive alerts or email notifications when a bid is placed or when the auction is nearing its end. They can also follow the auction’s discussion thread, or both, it's up to them.

Another great feature is that you can now schedule your auction's start date and time, which automatically sets the end date and time as well.

If you have any questions, suggestions, feedback, etc., please let me know.

Thanks!
Tommy

Thanks for the hard work on this @Tommy!

Will this new system automatically extend auction times if a bid comes in within a designated timeframe? So there's no confusion as to whether a bid extends an auction end-time or not?

No, once the auction ends the bidding is over. Similar to eBay.

Can you intergrate sniper software or auto-bidding so I don't have to be present at odd hours?

Sorry , there is no option for that. With the schedule start feature, sellers can end have the listing end at an optimal time. I read that the optimum time to end an auction is between 6 pm and 10 pm EST.

Just curious, if you want to share, what the thought process is on not extending time until new bidding ends? I guess I can see positive/negatives both ways but kind of enjoyed the back and forth bidding wars happening with extended time. Will be interesting to see how a hard stop impacts bidding activity.

Is the bid I enter similar to eBay where it is my “max” but the current bid is some increment higher than the previous one? And as long as no one bids higher than my max, I am still the current high bidder.

As a bidder, will I be able to receive a “you’ve been outbid” notification? Might not be as relevant if the answer to the first question above is no.

Based upon test auctions it does not appear to be set up that way unless I am missing something somewhere.

After talking it over with my friend and developer, we’ll be adding a bid sniping protection feature in the next update, which should be ready in about 2-3 weeks. This will keep extending the listing end time by a x minutes if a bid comes in during the last x minutes.

Booo...., auctions should end at specific time. The dragging on and on for 30+ extra minutes is exhausting. :(
Sorry my friend. I took into account that we're still using forum software for the auctions, and there’s some uncertainty about how it would handle multiple bids coming in at the same time.

Isn’t that kind of what the very definition of an auction is? Back-and-forth bidding until the final price is reached?

Prefer straight sales instead of max money grabbing auctions but yes bidding it up until a specific time is great, waiting around the extra 30+ minutes for people to stretch it out is meh.

Auto-bid would be better like FeeBay where you bid a top amount and the software increases the bid for you when necessary.

Anyway thanks Tommy for always adding improvements for us here.

Each of the online auction formats have their own +/- aspect. Personally, I do not care for eBay's format at all. Sometimes I put in my max bid and lose and then have loser's remorse and decide I might have stretched a little more if I knew I was close. Maybe that is user error, but eBay has my least favorite online auction format of them all.

Auto-max bid ability w/ extended time closing would be the best IMO. Gives the seller the opportunity to achieve the market value of their goods at that point in time, which I think is fairest to the seller, and the buyer has the time and opportunity to choose if they want to pay the current market value.

I'm sure you will be extracting max money from my stack at DiD next week...lol. Looking forward to throwing some cards with you.

Yes, thanks @Tommy for ongoing site improvements!

Then I would argue that you really didn’t bid your max. When I put in a bid late like that, I think, “What is the max number that I wouldn’t mind if I lost to someone bidding $1 more than me.”
THAT is a max bid.

New rule proposal: Auctions for any chips I’m interested in must end at time when I’ll actually be awake here in Euroland, mkay?

Thanks for listening to my TedTalk.

It’s my max bid at the time I make it. People can change their minds (well, some people at least) based upon new data received…
