I know back in the day (late 90s - early 00s) Paulson made directly available to the great unwashed certain "fantasy" or theme sets (Fabulous Las Vegas, Casino de Isthmus, Casino de Mexico, Dogs, Generals, Native American Leaders, Presidents, etc. - many of these based on the Horseshoe Gardena Casino set). A little bit after that several other themed series were released but I am not sure if these were owned by Paulson or someone else (@Apache ? 5 Star?). Does anyone know for sure the ownership of the designs and chip bases for:

Le Cove (these predated the following sets, so I assume it was a direct Paulson product)
Scandia (ditto for this)

Avalon (@imthatguy has been posting lately, I know he designed them but who owned that series?)
Classics
Le Paulson Noir
National Poker Series
Pharoahs (I know a CT/PCF member designed these, originally as ChipCo series IIRC, but I can't recall who)
World Top Hat & Cane/Private Card Room

You can see most of these here:

I thought Le Cove was designed by @Johnny5 , not sure

Pharoahs go back to pre Chiptalk days I think , Greg and some others put that together

J5 designed the Pharaoh's Club chips (all three versions) with Greg Cagle, and pretty sure he also designed the NPS set. Very possibly WTHC, too.

The Paulson Pharaoh's, Classics, CdIC v2, NPS, and WTHC were all Trademark orders with GPI. Order and distribution of the Pharaoh's group buy chips sparked the creation of ChipTalk.

The Avalon, PCR, GCR, and other hot-stamped card pip (suits) mold chips were later Apache orders (possibly with Trademark assistance). Designers varied.

The Paulson Le Noirs were ordered directly by Sidepot. Design contest was held on HPT, although the winning design was not selected for production.

Didn’t @Johnny5 design the Pharaoh’s too?

That was before my time but I remember going back to 2+2 once and scanning through the original thread about them
2+2, now that is taking me back!

As I remember there was a ChipCo set in/around CT time, the Paulson Pharoahs were much later.

Thanks for the info folks.

There was a similarly-styled set -- the Egyptians -- made by Chipco, designed by the late Michael Patton (@MSPatton) and sold on his HoldemPokerChips web site. J5 may have done the artwork on those, too.

That's what I'm thinking of (MSP R.I.P.). There was a an odd Octagon plaque in the set wasn't there?

Yep, octagon chips and rectangle plaques. He also offered several solid silver strike coins with an Ankh design.

Just out of curiosity, anyone have images of the not used winning design?

Yeah I actually think the Chipco version started at 2+2 then migrated to CT when it launched. Its funny cause I joined 2+2 for poker strat but found myself reading the Home Poker forum more for the chips! There was also a board called Texas Holdem Poker (THP) that had a fairly active Home Poker forum (pre-CT).

Also, J5 = Chip Legend!

is there any thread on what happened to chiptalk?
i was in, then i drifted away, when i came back it was gone.
always wanted the gossip on how it disintegrated.

Tenpercenters wife left him, and took their kids with her to Mexico. This dominated his attention and the site was neglected. After some downtime, the majority found PCF.

IIRC, it was Russia.

The site was OK and mostly self-sufficient until the database had an issue. His computer guy who knew how to manage it had died several months before leaving things in a bad way. New posts weren't getting posted if I remember. By the time that was resolved, everyone had made their way here.

Several years later, he deleted all the content that was there which was a shame as there was a lot of great information that's now lost.

I thought it was the 13.5g Official Casino Weight group buy that finally did the site in. And the hookers and blow of course.

These were another Paulson fantasy set available at that time. I have about 800…wish I had more!
