Origin of your Username (4 Viewers)

First thing that came to my head when asked for a username.

No idea where I've heard it from.

I used to have a group of friends come over to my house in the late 90's to have these huge Halo LAN parties. Conveniently these ended up being the same people that got me into poker and sneaking into casinos before we were of legal age.
Well, we would create the most silly usernames so that it would say, 'You were killed by (insert silly name here)'. My grandmother used to watch the old British TV show "Lovejoy", and I always thought how often they repeated his name in the show was ridiculous. So, I used that as my username one time just for kicks. I ended up having some of my best kill streaks ever during that period of time with that username, and my buddies ended up hating it. So I kept it. I however have never seen the show.

When I was in high school a couple friends started calling me "automatic". Because they automatically knew what how I was going to react to certain situations. Later it was shortened to "auto".

Grayjay is Canada's national bird. Bird photography is a past time of mine.

I played baseball , There was a coach who called me "The Natural" after the title character Roy Hobbs, in the movie of the same name..Ive always identified with it cause certain activities just come to me easily..

Beakertwang is the only moniker I've used across multiple forums and sites over the last 10 years.

I have 4 older brothers, and they called me "Beaker" and "Twang" as antagonistic nicknames (antagonicknames?) when I was a kid.

Beaker, because I was excitable, and had a high pitched voice, a la Beaker from The Muppet Show.

Twang, because of the bookbag my mom bought me for 1st grade. It was burnt orange, and had Snoopy playing guitar on it. Over Snoopy's head, in big, bold letters, was the word "TWAAAAANG!" They would stand behind me as we waited for the bus, and flick my ears, saying "twang!" with each flick. :(

The short version: I'm a butcher.
The extended version: My, now ex, wife's favorite band is The Cure. Taken from their first album Three Imaginary Boys, the song Meathook is about a butcher. The refrain being "Lost my heart to a meat hook…" So, back when we were still in high school, she deemed me Meathook. The e was added to the end for email as w/out was already in use… And it stuck.

Quad Johnson - Real name is John. For some reason over the years, I've made a ridiculous number of quads. So many Of the players from my home game circle started calling me Quad Johnson. Now, I'm a firm subscriber to game theory, odds and probabilities, etc and I know the amount of times you make big hands balances itself out over a large enough sample size. However sometimes I have to wonder myself when the poker gods just seem to be giving me quads like candy.

For perspective, I've made enough quads to have lost quad over quad three times and lost with quads once to a straight flush.

Tukchip - comes from to my very first set of Paulsons poker chips; Tukwila WA casino chips; commonly referred to Tuks in most threads on PCF. This is the set that go me to become a chip collector, and with now 3000 plus chips to my collection, they’re still my fav chips for a cash game.

Fantasy football...thought The Clobberers was a decent name, but at the time lived in Kennett Square. Kennett Klobberers were born...been Klobberer since 1988...30 years and counting.

I have this user name because my friends told me I had to have it.... well, not specifically "PlaidDragon"; just any name besides my own. Let me explain.

Years ago, back when the internet was in it's infancy, BESIDES playing poker my friends and I used to lug our computer rigs to each other's houses and play LAN games. This occurred nearly weekly for the better part of a decade starting around 1995.

In each game (i.e. original starcraft, diablo I, carmageddon, age of empires, etc) players set their name in the game profile. For one of the first sessions I ever attended with them, I set my name to"Mike". Almost immediately I received ridicule for that. At first I ignored their jabs, not sure what my friends were getting at. When it persisted, I took note of their names: "Finagle", "Methodical", "Pikel", "Azixarid", "McKay", others... all pseudonyms.

I thought it was dumb at the time and continued using simply "Mike". After a few more sessions of this I finally bowed to the peer pressure.

JUST to make them happy, I came up with the most nerdy and ridiculous thing I could think of. Thus, "PlaidDragon" was born. Amazingly, the choice DID seem to pacify them. :ROFLMAO:

Over the years it sort of stuck and I carried it into online gaming; and, ultimately here to PCF.

i began as a designer and wanted a cool name of a Studio with my name... That was taken... so i went with my initials
