Tonight we played cash NLH.
I caught on pretty early that people weren't having all that much fun.
We took a dinner break and I suggested we dialled down the stakes and I taught everyone how to play PLO. It was a major success.

My question is, is fixed limit Omaha a thing? - (NOT Pot Limit).

Yeah, it gets spread in mixed games and Boulder Station in Vegas has a high only fixed limit 8/16 Omaha game.

O8 (high/low) is much more common for fixed limit Omaha variants. Quite a few casinos feature this game or it’s big brother (Big O) which is O8 but 5 hole cards.

Thanks for the insight. I'm not sure how people would feel about playing Hi/Lo. I think they would be very happy with fixed limit 4card Omaha however.

The big problem is most of the people I know that would play limit Omaha would rather play limit stud

Don't know anything about stud either! Is 5 card draw stud?
5 card draw is 5 card draw. It’s a drawing game and not a stud game.
5 card stud is extinct.
7 card stud is what people mean when they say stud.

I wonder if anyone has any insight to why something like limit hold'em is fairly popular and you will see run in some casinos, but limit omaha, you won't see.

Is it though? Imo, FL hold em is like watching paint dry

I think part of the reason why Omaha works much better as PL is that you can push small edges hard and use blockers to run cool bluffs. Doesn’t work when there’s just another BB to call.

My thought process is a FL game would be good for when im playing versus my friends who’s money i don’t want to take all of in 1 hand as they might not rebuy if they get stacked and game breaks. Couple of guys don’t like to rebuy

Sure, but I’d much rather do NL/PL and lower the stakes to where they’re comfortable dropping a few bullets

Betting structure aside, Hold'em is easier than Omaha (you're playing one hand vs. 6 different combinations of hands) which contributes to it being the most popular game.

I know what you mean about not wanting to take your friends' money - my core group of players have known each other for decades. Still, I'd like to take most of the money they bring for the game :) Like @Eriks suggested, if we're playing no limit, we set the stakes on a total amount they're comfortable losing that allows for 3 buy ins each. For my group this works well as people usually win/lose 1 or 2 buy ins and the game keeps going.

I'd recommend limit for people that are new to poker or aren't big gamblers. A lot of my friends like this because it's easier - no need to think about bet sizing, and less higher pressure decisions. For limit games we played .50/$1 (with .25/.50 blinds), and everyone brought $40. No one had to rebuy and our games lasted about 5 hours.

Since then we've settled on .25-$5 spread limit with a $40 minimum. One time a friend lost $40 but we were playing Omaha and he is no good at it. If we play hold'em we don't see losses that high.

Only true at reaĺly small stakes. 10/20 or 20/40 with all redbirds is an entirely different experience.
Literally anything will be exciting if one has enough money riding on it, doesn’t mean the game in itself is fun.
