Fixed Limit Antes Advice (1 Viewer)

I’ve been hosting a home game for years now but we always play NLH or PLO. I’m thinking about introducing some fixed limit mixed games. None of the guys, my self included, have ever played any fixed limit games before. Been reading up the rules and the advice here about fixed limit sets. But I have a question…

If your set is made up of all chips 1/2 the small bet size (plus a few higher denomination chips), how do you handle antes? Aren’t they usually supposed to be 10% to 20% of the small bet?

Read through all the threads I could find but couldn’t really find an answer.

Easiest way to handle it is to make one person post the ante. Have a rotating button and have the ante match the big blind.

I host a regular 6-7 person 2-chip/4-four chip FL game. For ante games, I use a dealer-posted 3-chip table ante.

Not sure you need ante for fixed-limit games. They're here to give everyone something to defend, but in fixed-limit HE, for instance, you'll never get rid of draws the way you do in NLHE, no need for incentives! If needed, you can just have the button pay antes for the table (e.g. total 1bb for 6-8 players).

Antes for games where betting action is based on individual up cards (e.g., 7-card stud games)

Usually, stud games have antes while blinds games do not (with exceptions, of course). Dealer antes work well when games are played for a full orbit or an orbit +1. If the game can change every hand, say in a dealer's choice game, fewer players tend to call a stud game if it involves a dealer ante (again, with exceptions). Have fun and good luck!!!
