Ok, so i'm about to purchase 500 Pharoah's chips from Apache and was wondering how many of each denomination I should get. The only issue is, they are out of the 500t chips, but I have a guy who is willing to sell me 50 of them at a good price... so i'll have to build the set around only having 50 500t chips. I'll be hosting small tournaments at my house with probably 4-6 players. Nothing too serious, but I want to make sure we have everything we need. Heres what I was thinking for the chip quantities... Thanks in advance for your feedback!

150 x 25t
150 x 100t
50 x 500t
100 x 1,000t
50 x 5,000t

The number of T500 available to you is not a problem at all. Usually the T500 is not that vital and only works as a stepping stone from T100 to T1K.

As Wedge mentioned above, it would be good to get more info to get you a more precise count. If you're only hosting 4 to 6 players though, 500 chips sound a bit too much (can't believe I'm saying that!).

So one easy and no much thought behind breakdown, using full racks when possible would be (400ct):

100 x T25
100 x T100
50 x T500
100 x T1,000
50 x T5,000

You can run a T20K for 8 players at 12/12/5/11/1 with color ups and rebuys. You can go up to 10 players as well if you go 12/12/5/11/1 for 5 players and 8/8/4/12/1 for 5 players, plus rebuys and color ups.

If you have a bigger budget, I have 2 different single table tournament sets for sale in the classifieds. Both have a very similar breakdown and are good for up to 10 players, one of them includes one rebuy.

One is a GPI/Paulson clay set, the other is a ceramic hybrid set. If you’re interested, let me know and we can talk via DM.

I'm definitely open to seeing what sets you have, but I'm on a pretty tight budget at the moment.

This will actually work if you do 12/12/5/6 starting stacks. If your game grows to 10 you can still do the same starting stacks for 10k tourney

Hard to run a 10 person table of 12/12/x/x with only 100 25’s.

I’d say 125 25’s and 150 100’s. That gives you the 12/person you need for starting stacks of both denoms plus enough extra hundreds to color up those 25’s.

My ideal (YMMV) for a one table tourney is

120 25’s
150 100’s
50 500’s
80 1000’s
20 5000’s

But you sometimes have to buy in quantities of 25, so that adds a few, but it’s always good to have a few extras of each denom.

There’s always a line between what’s the minimum number you need and what works well to keep the tourney moving smooth. You want enough so that change making is not happening for half the table every hand. And not starting everyone out with the same number of each denomination - even though the total amount is the same - always messes with people’s heads and makes them think your flim-flamming them somehow.

Thats why I originally figured I go with this... thoughts?

150 x 25t
150 x 100t
50 x 500t
100 x 1,000t
50 x 5,000t

@ekricket said it best.

125 x 25
150 x 100
50 x 500
125 x 1000
50 x 5000

basically move 25 of your $25 chips away and add 25 $1k chips. you can never have enough 1K chips IMO

have you gotten any samples yet? i would definitely recommend some samples of the Pharoah's Majestics and the Dunes to see if you like the feel of them. I have a set of the Majestic's and they happen to be my favorite CC Chip. plus they are a tad bit cheaper than the Pharoah's.

Too many T25 and T 100. All T25 and T100 can be colored up with the T1000. A better breakdown would be 120/120/50(60)/75/25 for a total of 400 chips. It only takes 15 T1000 chips to color up all the T25/T100. Starting stacks of 12/12/5/6. You can add 2 T5000 to each stack to start a little deeper or you can give two of them to each player that rebuys.

Ahhh ok, that makes sense. I think thats what ill do then. Do you think I need that many $5,000 chips though? Maybe take away 25 $5k's and add 25 somewhere else?

I'm guessing your budget is around $200 based on 500x Pharaohs... Take $20 and buy samples from Apache of the Pharaohs and Monaco/Elites. Better you find out what you like and what you don't for $20 than spending $200 and not being happy.

Yes you can get much better chips for $400 and if your budget can stretch that far, there are much better chips to be had.

Yeah, as of now I have a max budget of about $250. But I'm curious... what sets are you referring to in the $400 range?

Honestly the most popular chips i own are the outlaw ABS chips that are 14c a chip. They are a huge hit with the people i play with. So stick to what you like regardless of price. Other chips grew on me in time, and its always changing lol

I had to google these chips:

Product Description
Each order comes with 25pcs of 13 gram Outlaw poker chips. These poker chips are made of high quality clay material with a metal insert for added professional weight and size. The chips are perfectly balanced and have the look and feel of real casino chips.

I played in a long running $1/$2 NLHE home game. The host had Monte Carlo 13.5 gram poker chips. Players loved them. (I kind of liked them as well.)

I thought that might be a bridge too far. I appreciate your sense of humor. Laughter can be a good remedy.

PM me your address and I will ship you out a free set-up of Copaq's. (You have had a stressful week.)
