Just a little about me... from Long Island, NY and have been playing poker for quite some time. 10-15 years ago, I used to be one of the hosts of a weekly cash game but with friends moving out, or starting a family, the poker nights disappeared. Come to 2021, I’m finishing my basement and have purchased a poker table. My wife asks me what I want for my birthday and I say poker chips. I start researching and come across this site. I ended up purchasing a few sample sets from Apache and would like your thoughts on what I should move forward with or even other suggestions that I may have missed. I am hoping to start up a small cash game with about 5-7 players. The samples I purchased were:

Casino Coin Center
Majestic Card Room

Bank

Monte Carlo

Royal

Oh and I also inquired about Atlantic Club Amold Chips from CPC but didn’t order a sample. What I’m looking for is something as close to the feel of real clay casino chips. The look of course matters too. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place to learn about chips.

What stakes do you guys play? Is it 0.25/0.50 blinds?

What's your budget?

If you want the closest you can get to real casino clay maybe get some used Paulsons from a closed casino like Jack Cincy. Those can run just under a dollar a chip for the used ones.

Of the ones you listed, Majestic or Royals are probably the best. The Royals are 43mm and the Majestics are 39 mm which is the standard size you see in casinos. I believe those are china clays.

From there CPC are pretty darn close to Paulsons once they get used a bit. Many users here end up getting a custom set from them.

Get some more samples of other chips before you jump into it and do ask if you have more questions.

As many people here will tell you, get samples before you buy a set. I have both new and used CPCs that I'd be happy to lend you, PM if you're interested. Although you might be farther ahead to borrow from someone based in the US, as it'll be cheaper shipping-wise. There are lots of members who are happy to lend samples. I find that used CPCs feel just like Paulsons, if not better; they're buttery smooth.

Thanks for the reply and advice! My samples are coming in Wednesday so I’ll see which ones I like from those. You’re all making me lean more towards CPCs now though!

Welcome! Bunch of people from New York here! You from Nassau or Suffolk county?
