Howdy, all. New member here from Houston, Texas. Originally from Tennessee, I relocated to Texas in 2009 for work.

I was introduced to poker around 1999 through a friend who hosted regular home-game Hold'em tournaments, and I was hooked almost immediately. A small side story: we both worked for the same company as an accountant who went from being a relatively unknown poker player to an overnight superstar when he won the WSOP Main Event. No, I never played with him personally, but I knew several people through overlapping social circles who did.

I played some online tournaments over the years, though they never really appealed to me. My appreciation for the game grew much more through live poker, particularly after taking shots in a few WSOP satellites and playing $1/$2 cash games around Memphis.

I also dabble in blackjack and have recently been branching out into other poker variants, including Omaha, Stud, and Razz.

My interest in poker chips started when I offered to help a friend run some freeroll tournaments to bring more foot traffic into his business. During one of our conversations, he showed me his chip set—the classic off-the-shelf striped dice chips. I offered to supply a nicer set, which gave me the perfect excuse to start collecting.

As I researched options, I wanted something that would give experienced players a more casino-like feel without making a huge initial investment. I also wanted clear denominations to help newer players keep track of chip and pot values. After a lot of looking around, I settled on Eclipse composite chips. They seemed to hit the sweet spot for value, feel, and readability.

That search eventually led me here. I've been soaking up as much information as I can from this community, and what interests me most is the custom chip side of the hobby. If our little freeroll experiment proves successful, I'd love to take the next step into custom ceramics.

My first set is a little over 1,000 Eclipse composite chips in tournament denominations: $25, $100, $500, and $1,000. I got a bird cage for the set so we can have it out on display and use it to drive interest in events. They've been very well received by the players so far, with one exception—the purple $500s are a bit dark and can blend in with the black $100s under certain lighting. That's a problem for future me.

Looking forward to learning from everyone here, seeing some great collections, and diving in headfirst.

Cheers!
