Hello all,

I am a new guy to Pokerchipforum and have already spent a few hours looking at the site, learning and also in awe of how big poker chips have become. I had no idea and it is all very interesting.

I need know some of the acronyms. Is there a resource on this site for those or do I learn them as I go? like what is BCC?

Looking to get some starter party set chips and probably a collectors or premium set. I will also need poker cards-are those available here or do I buy from other sources?

Can't wait to start learning and playing.

Coachpete.

If you're ever in a thread with a strange acronym, just ask. You won't look dumb, I promise, and somebody will chime in and enlighten you.

I've looked bumb before, especially when folding two pair and the next card would've made boat, but I read somewhere on this sight that nobody cares about the hand I folded. Can't get much dumber than that! Thanks for the encouragement.

One acronym I learned is CDI and that there are real ones and fake ones. And the real ones are either '98 or 2005. Either way they are a rare collector chip that drives a good price. Last month a guy from Switzerland sold a set of 500 with extras for about 2k. How many were originally made of the CDI and I might be interested in some.

OK I am new to the site so I don't quite understand the question, but will play poker and other games with a set at a party type atmosphere and if I loose a few here or there or they get damaged they are easily replaceable or not even missed if not replaced. I guess I would need non-denominational chips, blanks?, that come in about 4 to five different colors. I really need to put more thought into it for how many chips I might need. No hurry though just want to start looking.

Hello and Welcome to the site @coachpete

I think @tabletalker7 was trying to ask, what game will you play precisely? Specifically, if it's poker, will it be "cash" or "tourney"? As well, how many people do you intend to host? Will your game grow? Etc etc. These pieces of information will help us better advise you on what we think you'd need.

With respect to "BCC". I believe it stands for Blue Chip Company. A company that doesn't exist anymore to my knowledge but many of the chips they made still float around and have a huge following and an even larger demand. Some of the sets are downright gorgeous. They are durable, colorful, and sound and feel cool. A chippers delight. YMMV, of course.

With respect to CDI or Casino De Isthmus line of chips, they were produced by Paulsons(GPI - I'm not sure when exactly Gaming Partners International acquired the Paulsons company) for the home market. There are a few lines of chips, but I think the 98 CDIs are more rare to see in quantity and featured the THC (top hat & cane) mold, also very desirable. The 2005 CDIs, which are also Paulsons, featured a home mold, or "Paulsons Chips mold" and had different base colors and edgespot colors. Different chips entirely. In addition to CDIs, there are also Pharaoh's chips, Classics, and NPS Tournament chips, all products of Paulsons, all amazing chips. Some members around here dislike the Paulsons chips mold, but I still love them. I've got a set of Pharaoh's.

In regards to fake or counterfeit CDIs or Paulsons, I don't know much about that. I'm pretty sure none of mine are fake. I don't even know I can be 100% sure, but these Paulsons man, they are amazing and I'd think a person would be able to tell if they are fake or not. I'm sure nobody in this site is gonna sell you anything like that.

Anyways, I'm still a dumb newbie, don't know it all, but this is what I think I know about the chips you ask about.

Here is a picture of my samples display. It features Pharaoh's, CDI 98s, and CDI 05s, in that order top to bottom. You can see the difference.

If I may, I would recommend ceramics from @BR Pro Poker. Ceramics clean up easily, can be replaced with great ease and convenience, and can take some serious punishment. Also with ceramics you can customize the entire chip instead of just a label, and you can use color scheme to aid in the atmosphere you are trying to create. I used @BR Pro Poker for my micro stakes set you can see it here https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/gene-kristil-micro-stakes-magic.53333/

Crazy a lot of information... Thanks guys. I will take my time in reviewing before making a purchase. thanks for the link tabletalker7.
Jeevansluck do you have CDI98 for sale or have a big collection of them. Just interested because I bought a set way back when and now my kids want to play but don't want to let them use a valuable set of CDI98 when I should get a ceramic set for everyday use. But then again you only live once so buy em and use em. Then again my 14 year old already asked me that when I die if he could get the CDI98's

I have nothing more than what you see in my display:(

They are amazing chips, and most owners of these won't let go. It's truly awesome your son wants them! Keep em bud. Pass them on. They are wicked chips.

I wish I had me a set. I just dream on my sample set. I'll never have a set. Just too deep a "rabbit hole".

How many do you have? Would love to see some pics!

I will send some pics later when I am at home, But to my memory I have about 900 chips (no white 50 cent) $1, $5, $25, 100, 500 and 1000's. I also purchased wood racks (chip holders) that are stamped with the Paulson Gaming Supplies on the bottoms. I think the wood racks are equally as rare. I bet I could even find the original sales receipt or packing slip when I bought them back in '98 or '99. I think they came from New Jersey.

It's all kinda surreal now. I was just a kid really and called the company to buy chips. I didn't know what I was buying, never saw pics or anything, the customer service lady made the suggestion "do you want James Bond chips?" and I said sure why not. Crazy.......

CDI are beautiful chips, they come in cash denoms and tourney denoms. It's not too often toubsee whole sets go for sale, and not often for less than $1200.

Either way, dont lose hope, continue looking and pursuing!

If u are looking for a really inexpensive option for ur son, I would suggest the “all in” clay chip. They have a nice clay feel and are nondenominational. My son uses my set of all in chips for his game, (and I have plenty of other sets that he will not be touching). I use these chips for when I host OFC. I think they are really nice chips for the price. See attached pics. Someone on Craigslist is selling a new set of 500 for 100 bucks. Just a thought.

Oh yeah, if you're looking for poker supplies and gear and whatnot, browse through the Marketplace and look at what all the vendors have to offer. It's not just chips - there are a billion types of accessories to enhance your game, your home décor, DIY hobby materials, etc. It's a WORLD out there!

For cards, might I suggest @desjgn ?

Thanks for all the well wishes guys

Great to be a part of the poker world even though separated by oceans, mountains, prairies and now viruses.

Looks like poker parties will have to wait.

Legend 672 I don't know Jim Rockford, but maybe I do and don't know it.
