Hello everyone. My name is Marcus and I'm extremely new to chip collecting. I began wanting 3 different sets for my home games. I have a cheap suited chip set for tourneys already but wanted a mid-range set for cheaper cash games (0.05/0.10), probably something ceramic (I happen to like the Laurel Crowns a lot). But lately I've been heading up the hill to play at the casinos and realized I loved those chips. I've come to find out they are Paulson's and after doing some research, I feel overwhelmed. Never did I imagine such a rabbit hole when it came to poker chips but I can see myself getting into it.

Long winded post but I am glad a community like this exists because I'm way over my head and I look forward to communicating with you all. Have a wonderful day!

Welcome! Plenty of CO members here!
Thank you very much! That's awesome to hear that there is a community of Colorado residents. I've been making my way up to Black Hawk about once a month and would love online poker to be legalized but I miss the home games my friends and I had before we all moved our separate ways.

Welcome.

Check out BRPro Poker for ceramics. Alot of people like them better then laurel crowns. Also there are group buys for ceramics from China (cards molds and no molds) that are great if you like ceramics.

But clay is king. Lol.

Awesome thank you for the info! Yeah I like the ceramics ive sampled but have fallen for the clays I've sampled.

Welcome, fellow Coloradan! There are lots of great Colorado chippers here.
That is great to hear! I am going to need a lot of help as this is a hobby that requires a lot of research and help.

Anything we can do to help, just ask. If I may, what sort of budget are you working with? There are some good deals to be had in the classified section, but there are also very high end chips as well.

Right now I'm looking at 1k as my budget. I'm looking to have two sets with at least 1k count (Looking at 8-10 regular players) with one being high end at some point. I'm willing to be patient on the high end chips as those will be used sparingly
I still would like a set I'd be proud to use often in my low-stakes game (.05/.10).

Welcome to PCF from another Colorado member! Check out the cards mold and no mold group buys for some nice chips in the cheap to get started. Lots of designs and denoms to choose from. I recently added this cabinet to house some of my chips.

Thank you for the heads-up. Turns out I have even more to look at than I ever thought.

Well, you certainly can’t go wrong with a group buy for a good, inexpensive set. There are plenty of designs to choose from, and getting a micro steaks set for cheap should be no problem. Keep an eye on the classified section for clay chips that come up. You could always get a very nice set of CPC stock chips for $700-800, or save up and get a custom set together. It’s good that you’re taking things slow with your nicer set. Look around, do some research, and make sure it’s the one you want before committing.

There’s a thread going around that will get you a loaner set of Paulsons, if you want to try before you buy.
