New chips - Resort World Catskills (1 Viewer)

If the $1 had two more or two less blue spots it would be absolutely sublime. Sort of can't stand that spot pattern. May still go harvest some.

It's my belief (with nothing to back up said belief) that casinos hire some ad agency to do the promo shot for their website (and perhaps even manage the website). So the agency goes out, buys "some chips" and takes the photo. The casino has nothing to do with the actual photo.

Sometimes the ad agency will hire models to look all excited, and gets permission to do a couple shots in the casino. The agency is still supplying the chips, and maybe even the cards. The casino is still pretty much hands-off, other than supplying a time and a place for the shot.

Like I said, I don't have any actual knowledge that this is why dice chips appear in promo pics, but it is my hypothesis.

It’s probably a stock photo their marketing people licensed off a site for, like fifty bucks...

I used tineye.com to reverse search this image, and it shows up on a bunch of other poker and casino sites... So it is in fact a stock image.

You’d think that someone investing boatloads of money in a casino would hire marketers/ad agencies with enough smarts to at least ask the question, “What types of chips are used in this type of business?” But... no.

BTW, TinEye is a really useful site to know about. For chippers, I could see using it to detect scammers who are using photos of chips they don’t actually have, or to try to find out where a seller bought a set from previously.

Whar are we calling the spott pattern on the five - quadmoon?
I agreee with @DoubleEagle - that inlay outer ring is poo

Whar are we calling the spott pattern on the five - quadmoon?

Those are actually half-circles, not moons. Moons are the spots on the Horseshoe Cleveland $2.50, half-circles are the spots on the Aurora Star $1 chips.

So the Resorts World $5 chips are actually a 4-HC (or quad HC would work too).

Ketchup and Mustard. Just like the Even Stevens $5

Finally got there... Didn’t care for the Ketchup/Mustard combo. I kept thinking “McDonald’s.”

I was also kind of surprised at the weight of these (MD-76bs?) Paulsons. Maybe I’m just too used to my older THCs, but the Resort World chips felt a gram or two lighter than expected, which gave them an almost plastic-y feel.

The poker room was kind of a disappointment, to be honest. While the overall RWCatskills facility is a lot bigger and glitzier than our other Hudson Valley casino (Rivers), and it has a lot more amenities, the poker room feels kind of dismal.

Lots of tables, to be sure. But not a single window to the outside, and a relatively low ceiling... which results in the claustrophobic feeling of being in a some random conference space at an airport.

They made a lot of other peculiar decisions—TVs way too small to be viewed from a distance, garish ’80s-style carpet, and poorly-calibrated lighting. Half my table was in deep shadow, the other half hideously overlit. The screen showing the waiting list is also inexplicably out in the hallway, rather than inside the room itself.

With hope they’ll be tweaking things, and were just in kind of a rush to open.

The dealers were mainly fine, overall. A couple of really good ones, most average, some who were a little slow/unsure of themselves, and only a couple real clunkers, who presumably will either learn or get weeded out. (Had one instance where I tabled my winning hand right in front of me, with my fingers lightly covering their back edges, then had to slam both palms down quickly on them as the dealer tried to sweep them away, thinking another guy won the pot. No tip for you!)

But! I found a $100 chip in my pocket when I got home that I forgot to cash out, so I guess I’ll have to go back in spite of the above.

Here’s the carpet which was giving me flashbacks to 1985:

Just so you are aware, carpets in casinos are designed to keep you from looking down. The house does not want a bunch of people walking in, looking at their feet. What kind of psychological vibe would that set when you walk in and see 50 people moping about?

Heads up! Look happy (even though we just took your last dollar)! Still have money left? Look down and you may miss the excitement at the craps table. Look down, and you might walk past your favorite childhood TV show, which is beckoning you from a slot machine.

Make no mistake, those ugly carpets do a fine job of hiding spills, but that is a welcome secondary effect. Those carpets are there to take your money.

The print quality on the label is not so good. You can see the dot patterns in the gradients way too much... i.e., that graininess is more in the printing than the photo, unf.

I also, per above, am surprised by the lightness of these chips. They feel underweight.

Heh. Now, just look how those white pips are already gathering crud like crazy. These have been in play for less than a week. Or maybe my pockets are just full of coal.

So spent 6 hours in the poker room today.
All in all was pretty good. Some of the dealers are a little inexperienced which I expected. The room has about 20 tables however there is a bunch of more space beyond the walls that has not been used yet so I am guessing they just wanted to get started and will expand if the need arises.

Other random notes:
The ride was pretty easy from North Jersey.
The parking lot is a little confusing.
I did not walk the regular casino much so will do that next time.
The burger was not bad.
The mozz sticks are absolute garbage.
There is a good golf course i am told.
They are building and indoor water park.

All in all i like it and expect it will improve when they get in the groove and it is all not so brand new. Looking fwd to next trip.

I borrowed a few chips, does anyone want to take them back for me:sneaky:

That's not the worst looking $1 I've seen. Could make a nice limit set out if those
