This has been around for several years. It can be a bit glitchy but still works. I have a couple Photoshop licenses but have still used this on occasion. It does work quite well.

I forget exactly, but it seemed like this popped up as a revolt to SaaS when Adobe stopped developing and distributing the stand alone perpetual license software for Photoshop and Lightroom and committed entirely to the Creative Cloud versions and business model. Maybe 2017 or 2018. Kind of surprised it hadn’t caught on more broadly.

Does this function well on mobile browsers now? That would be amazing.

Not a knock-off per se, but Inkscape does a lot of what Illustrator does and is free.

I prefer GIMP, also free. Illustrator has a friendly, intuitive interface.

To my mind, GIMP and Inkscape are complementary. As a novice, the only thing I find lacking with Inkscape is an inability to save or export to AI, but since that's a proprietary format, that''s expected.
