so, my new CPC chips will arrive tomorrow, and will be put in play for my monthly game in June.

Since this is their maiden voyage onto the felt, I’d like to do something special. I’m at a loss for ideas.

- I’d like to offer additional bonus chips, outside of the standard 1k on time bonus.

- i don’t want to do a dress up theme, as I hate costumes (Halloween is my least favorite “holiday”)

- I usually do my food drive before Christmas, and will keep that there.

- I could offer a host donation add-on, but not sure that is tacky or not ($500 for every dollar added-on, up to $10 per person). I do provide hot dogs, popcorn, soda, water, and sometimes bourbon. I don’t ask anything in return. I usually get a few bucks at the cash game cash outs, but not a bunch.

Anyone have any ideas?

Mark

Perhaps add a bit to the food ...
"Free All-Nite Hot Dogs, Beer, Soda, Bourbon, Popcorn, Chips, Water, Pretzels, Olives, Cut Veggies .."

& then mention / add:
"$1000 bonus chips for a $5 house/food donation, $2500 Bonus for $10 ...."

Some ideas good and bad in no particular order:
  • Double starting stack
  • Free add on at 1st break
  • Chip bonus for every KO.
  • Win a hand with 7-2 and show for a chip bonus.
  • Bring an appetizer, get more chips.
  • Bring a friend and get a referral bonus in chips.

Hot Dog Sandwich Roller Donation Fund?

I also like the "bring a food item for chips" idea.

Not for donation, for consumption. Or Bring-Booze-For-Chips, if it's a drinking group.

Ive done a beer bonus.. bring a six pack, get extra chips. I do this once per year. Granted, last of my players bring six packs anyway...

progressive Rebuy tournament - $1 to enter, unlimited rebuys but each one costs you twice what your previous buyin was. Takes some accounting, but it’s interesting.

never this

Win a hand with 7-2 and show for a chip bonus.
I don't like 72 bonuses one bit. I think it's like playing with wild cards - not necessary.
I like @timinater 's idea of chip bonuses for knockouts. I've always liked the concept of knockout tournaments, but I've never liked how bountiess reduce the cash prize pool. Maybe it just suits my game - I'm always the guy who'll call shortstack all in's in tournament play - I feel like I'm doing a service for the rest of the field, but often don't get paid very much for it. So give me a chip bonus!

Like I said, some good ideas, some bad, but why not?

We do a single side payout instead of chips, and it's popular and always results in cheers and yelling when someone shows and scoops the payout. Good times.

Have an auction for an add-on(s) at the end of the re-buy period. We do this for charity events and it is very popular.

Has anyone ever done this? How did it work out? For a normal T-10K chip set would your buy in get you 1K-3K in chips?
