Ok, so as my stats on the left show, I'm new to this world of chipping and upon searching for chips, I fell in love with the Silver Seven $1s. These were the first chips I got that decent casino chips (my first set is a set of Majestics). I've been shuffling the SS for weeks now and am absolutely in love with their feel. They're a bit heavy (10gish) and the biggest thing about them is they're not grainy in feel. Since the Sevens, I've got some WTHC, Diamond Jacks and various singles. My biggest issue so far is that every chip I've shuffled besides the SS feels overly grainy and...I don't quite know how to describe it...thin?delicate? The Silver Sevens feel like thick heavy smooth plastic.

My questions are:
1.) Do all new chips feel grainy/light and will eventually feel denser/smoother as they get used? The Silver Sevens I have are casino used, so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it.
2.) Does anyone know what blend of materials the Silver Sevens are made of and if you know of any other THC molds/any molds that use the same blend?
3.) This isn't a leaded thing is it? I'm assuming the Silver Sevens aren't leaded since they're still a live chip and were only made around 2012 I believe.

I'm hoping someone out there knows and can help cause I'm a bit lost as to if I can complete a cash set based around the SS that I initially wanted to do.

Thanks in advance :)

You're describing chalky new chips. Give them time & use them. (or clean them/oil them) They will eventually feel buttery!

Alright, perfect. I'll try to get my hands on some used THCs and see how they feel. Thanks for the answer :)

I think it’s a little more than just sharp vs buttery. I find weight to be a big factor. Textured inlays also create a nice feel when the shuffled chips are pushed back together. The mold and condition of the chip I’m sure also factor into the sound and feel. Maybe this is the graininess you’re referring to?

I’ve come across some Empress Joliet sec $25 that were worn smooth, light (9g), and rubbery maybe from cleaning that were terrible to handle.

Condado Beach pri $100 is probably my favorite barrel to shuffle.

1000 > 1500 then 2000 grid wet sanding on the chip edge can make all chip feel more than buttery (does’t effect the chip diameter just the chip edge surface).
