Needing some bud Jones expertise. I built a custom Weighted S2 set. I had a bunch of $1s that I loved and decided to add SJ intercontinental $5s and $25s. I bought some from a vendor here, and when they arrived I immediately was confused as they do not feel anything like bj chips. They felt much more like Abbiati chips. I had a well used SJ $5 for reference, and the shine was even different. The $5 and $25 chips I received are much more matte in finish, and the sound is also way closer to my abbiati chips than it is to all my bud Jones weighted S2s and V7s. Lookswise the label is identical. All the chips I received appear to be mint.

Did Bj start using a different plastic in more recent decades, or does the shine and “Bud Jones” feel come with tons of handling?

There are weighted S2s with both the shiny finish and more matte look. There are different sets of both. What are $1s you are talking about?

This may be what I have going on then. The $1s are Canterbury's, but all my bud jones S2s and V7s have the same shine and bud jonesyness, these mint ones definitely are matte
Condition matters. Mint chips can look, feel, sound, and taste different from casino used ones.
I was wondering this as well, though DMack may have solved it.
pics maybe?

Pics for reference:

Bottom chip is the casino used, much more shine in person and glossiness than the top two mint ones

chip on the far left is the casino used one.

Factory fresh BJ chips come with a matte finish and sometimes with a very light power-like residue. After lots of use, they lose the matte finish and become shiny.
Appreciate this, it has been bugging my brain and senses since I got them. I need a chip tumbler or to hire out people to shuffle them nonstop for the next year I guess.

Take a shuffle stack to work and swap it out with a new stack once a month. :cool

Needed as many eyes on it as possible to get the answers I demand!
