Bergs, the "loophole" you speak of has been used by many members in the past (sale starts at 10am, posts show up at 10:02 stating "In-and-out! Got my thousands, got my $500s, got the rest, three orders please combine shipping thanks!") and no one ever had an issue. The only reason it became an issue here is because of a VERY limited supply and complainers piling on. If so many butthurt members didn't jump in the pool it's perfectly plausible that everything would have been fine.

Two people got the $500s. "Loophole" or not they were going to be gone in under ten seconds flat regardless and it's highly likely they all would have been scooped up between two people anyways.

We've now seen what can happen when members join forces in a common complaint... if you're not happy with the current result of those bickerings, I'm trying to understand why some of you seem to think continuing it will make anything better rather than worse?

Jim doesn't read these forums. A bunch of butthurt people must've contacted him and created enough overhead work that it's easier and cheaper for him to sell on eBay.

Maybe people shouldn't have tried to exploit the loophole in an effort to selfishly lock up what was going to be a difficult set to acquire. Regardless, if these people turn around and sell the $500s because of (insert life event here) they should be called out as possible flippers. Jim likely isn't going to continue giving us a break on these prices in sales here relative to eBay if it's a bunch of flippers buying and selling and taking advantage of his generosity.

He participated in this thread so he read at least some of this. He has said he'd ban flippers from future sales if they were on his naughty list.

I'm sure he doesn't sit here and paw through the forums, but I'm also suspecting that some people wrote him someone upset about the availability of the $500s and maybe even cancelled orders, adding to his overhead.

I don't understand. A lot of the same people here were on Chiptalk, but the community as a whole here seem more selfish and loves to shoot their golden goose. Sad, really.

I wouldn’t like to comment on whether it’s a less friendly place, since it’s still a great community on PCF and I’m very greatful it’s here.

I think it’s just the nature of any hobby when the prices reach a certain point at which the sets become valuable enough to be seen as an “investment”.

It does seem like the end of an era though with the whole eBay thing.

Dear god @bergs the horse has been beaten to death, revived, and beaten to death 5 times already. The more this gets brought up the worse it looks! The more people 'discuss' the "loophole" and back and forth becomes 10 pages of what appears to be complaining!

For the love of god, lets just go over the numbers ONE MORE TIME!!!

There were 400 $500 chips.

There was 2000 maximum per household.

There was a 10% maximum of $500's per *entire order*

That means unless people are voluntarily only buying barrels, the $500's will go to the FIRST TWO people that order their completely allowed maximum.

Nobody knew there was 400. You were allowed to buy 200 per person/household.

The strategy was asked before the sale went live "Can I buy those first and then buy the other chips after?" and the consensus was that Jim has always combined shipping on orders in the past so why not.

The issue was that the limits for the $500 was FAR TOO HIGH for the amount of chips available. If there is enough chips for at least 20 people to buy the amxim

Jim himself said:
I will definitely look at all the suggestions. In hindsight I should have put more limits on the $500s. My thoughts were that someone ordering a 1000 chip set could get a full rack. But what happened was that 2 orders got 160 each, 20 for samples and that only left 20 for others. My bad.

Jim

@bergs read the last 10 pages and you'll realize everything was discussed agreed upon and laid to rest.. no need to try and revive feelings of discontent towards other forum members. They are just doing what every chipper wants, MOAR CHIPS. Nothing says we need to have restraint at chip room sales to leave chips for other people... that's what we assume the limits are for.

The forum motto is you can never have enough, right?

If you read this thread at all you would see Jim adding his voice many many times... so....

You are fixated on the word "loophole" and ignoring the fact that it's been a publicly stated common practice in the past that not one single person has ever come out as having an issue with. No one knew there were only 380 available in the sale, they would have been gone in mere seconds even if all buyers were limited to a barrel.

So, you don't think the game plan all along was to put these chips on eBay ? So you buy chips but don't play poker ?

Why would it be? Is it yours? Is it mine?

Are you just making an assumption blanket statement that whoever bought the $500's is just doing it for profit?

I don't grasp what you're getting at... I hope

They were never really good anyway...

You aren't. They didn't.

you're right im not sad. But yeah... they are the reason the chips i want are on eBay and not on a PCF sale.

So there it is. Wrong or not. Doesn't matter - the result is the same.

There was a good thing going and now its not.

Not happy

Let me try and put the final word up on this.

I try and make the sales as fair as possible for all PCF members. We put up the rules in the beginning of each sale to prevent people (mainly flippers) from purchasing only the rare denominations, only to sell later. I look at this site as a place to move lots of chips for people who love chips, like myself, to use in their own games. I offer below market pricing (I do know what the true market value is) as a way of saying thanks to you for all the years of support. If these discussions about "loopholes" have occurred, I did not see them or I would have revised the rules to address this issue. Also, I have also never noticed this occurrence in the past or it would have been addressed. This is not a loophole, it is a violation. As stated before, if I monitored the orders in real time, all of the violations would have been refunded immediately. In hindsight, this is what I should have done, instead of filling the orders. I do not like sending the auctions to eBay. While making more money is nice, I do not like to sell only a couple hundred chips a week. I am a volume seller. I have reached out to Tommy to see what we can do to try and shore up these issues. I am very disappointed in those who tried to take an unfair advantage in the purchase process and prohibited some of my great customers from enjoying the chips.

I am very thankful for all of your support over the years We will be back selling in my marketplace soon. I just want to figure out a way to make it fair to all of my great customers to enjoy the chips.

Thanks for listening.

Jim
I’m sure he’s fed up with the flipping and probably with our bullshit too. But I really don’t think we should be demonizing the two “loophole” buyers who snagged the bulk of the $500’s. Maybe they’re the straw that broke the camel’s back, or maybe they just brought to light the flaws inherent in the PayPal checkout system that Jim was using. But let’s remember that their strategy was openly discussed here prior to the sale (without any condemnation from anybody) and that their strategy was tacitly endorsed by the way orders were fulfilled in past chiproom sales.

I cleaned up the chips and they look great. I'll send photo once I get home. Will be used in our Wednesday night regular game. The $25's - look great in the room with my aquarium. The aquarium gives off a strong blue light causing the spots to glow.

Thank you Jim for all you've done. Your motives are noble, and your moves very adequate however you decide to proceed

I think you deserve more thank you posts than complaining posts :)

Jim - this is great news. We all value what you bring to the community here. If we can help with the issues in any way please don't hesitate to let us know.

What's everyone using to clean these puppies? Never cleaned hotstamps and am worrying about damaging, but hot water/dawn dish soap isn't really doing much

I've always used a bowl of hot water and dishwasher detergent. That plus a brush gets them nice-nice.
Based on this, I'm just gonna stick them all in my dishwasher on "pots and pans" and let God sort them out....

Vegetable brush and Fels Naphtha soap. Good for organic gunk. Wish I had Pipe Shield. Wish my brush had finer bristles for some of the gunk in the canes. Need to check Amazon if I start buying too many more casino used chips.
