My First Vegas Harvest (2 Viewers)

Since you asked, I went back and looked & noticed about 30 that are noticeably thinner than the others. I pulled them out & these are going back. So now I'm short. I'll go back in the spring, but may have a buddy going in the next couple of months. If you don't acquire a barrel before then, i'll hook you up.

Hey @ADS Aviator -- If you're just going to return those 30 back for your $30 back, I'd be happy to take 'em off your hands for the same price. I can live with a few that are thinner. I'd give ya $35 ($30 for the chips; $5 for a beer as my way of saying thanks :) ) and pick up postage. Just hit me with a PM if interested.

Thanks too for the harvest info. You've inspired me now. The combo of craps and harvesting actually sounds sort of fun.

Both.
But since they give out $1 chips all day long they could care a less if you just walk away.

Got a few more questions if you have time...I am interested in attempting to harvest in the future too, but do see how it could be awkward.

Do you say anything when you go up there? Or do you just place $20/4x$5s on the table? Do you try to get there when there are a lot of people or when there is no one? Can you get multiple rounds of change while you are there one time, or only once every dealer change or couple hours?

Thanks for any strategy info!

The 30 that are going back are Flamingo $5s. Not sure why they are thinner, but they could have spent a lot of their life in the poker room, where life is hard for a chip.

Day one, harvesting was fun. By day 3, it felt like a part-time job. I go to vegas 2-4x per year, so it's not a big deal. If I only went once every couple of years, It'd be a different story. For me anyway.

The BigWwheel eliminates ALL of those issues.
Their tray is full of $1's (and some 5's)
Everyone that plays plops down $20/$40/$80 etc and they stack out barrels of 1's to you. Like I said it almost feels like steeling.
They don't care if you walk away they already got your $$.
I would plop down $40, get 2 barrels. Throw $2 down on a bet and then sort through the other 38 to see what I wanted to keep. Then either keep playing or walk away and cash in the bad ones. (And if/when you win they stack you out more 1's!!)
I had my wife do the same so in a matter of a few minutes we have an easy rack.
Really takes minimal time at all.

Roulette is kind of a pain because you have to play games to get any qty because they always want to give you roulette chips.
Blackjack and craps are doable but nothing is as easy as the big wheel.

Tell the dealer you’d like to exchange a couple $5s for 10 singles to tip with. You can usually hit multiple blackjack tables doing this and pocket the $1s as you go.
If you can find a cheap craps table that isn’t cold and just play the pass line bet, this is the fastest way to accumulate singles in my experience.

Was there last weekend and I loved the $5's, but I was so focused on actually winning I didn't attempt to start sifting through $5's...I didn't have that much time...I LOVE the $5's...

That is pretty sweet, but is like a $900 cash set...Those $5s add up quickly... and having live $25s....yikes....

It is a lot of $, but I look at it this way. Until these chips are called for redemption, at the very least, I can return them to the cage and get my $ back. So I'm essentially giving Caeser's Corp an interest free loan of $900. My risk free rate right now is slightly under 2%. So today, I'm only out ~$18/year or $1.50/month to have these in my possession. Easily worth it....to me anyway.

yep. I wonder all together how many racks have been liberated just this year? I bet over 25.

Probably. The guys I bought 2 from harvested 5 or 6 total. I know you got a few. There have been several in classifieds recently. I don't NEED more but if I find another rack or 2 in the insanely good condition my current 1s are in for the same amazing price I'd get them just to have lol. @41Pickup did an amazing job picking them and his wife could make a living in cleaning and oiling chips, never seen casino used chips this clean and nice

All these beautiful Paris $1’s I keep seeing have pushed me over the edge. I just sent a friend in Vegas money to harvest me 2 racks of them. I told him all the ways mentioned here so hopefully he is able to get them pretty easy.

Niceeeee. You will be pleased with them.

In my experience, the easiest way to harvest them was at blackjack. I get 10 in change and cap my bet with a single and tip (bet) a single for the dealer. I put the worn ones in the tip, so if the get won, they go into the tip bucket. You basically end up trading ones so fast that no one seems to notice putting 50 or so in your pocket. Also the dealers like that constant flow of tips.

Gabi Mon Ami is my go to breakfast place in Vegas. So I'm usually doing this in the morning, when no-one is around.

If you ask for any more than 5 they will call the pit, who will send you to the cage. They will sell you 5 at the cage.

Last trip I won $400 in blackjack and got 2 racks. BONUS

Both.

The big wheel is literally the WORST odds in the casino so I guess they make enough money off of it to not care about chip shrinkage.

Doesnt get better than this!!!

Probably true but the object is to harvest chips.

You're right! I'm 100% doing this next time I go to Vegas. I just think it's funny that BJ and Craps tables make it difficult to harvest even if you're betting $50 at a time. Frankly, it's Paris's fault for designing such nice chips as their $1. They should just embrace it and flood the market with the chips at face value. A couple thousand chips would satiate demand I think. A net cost to them of a few hundred dollars. Cheapest marketing they would spend this year.

Thanks for this. Heading to paris later this month.

You are welcome. Just be assertive. If anyone questions why you want them tell them you want them for tips. Some people have mentioned that by actually sitting down and playing a few spins at the wheel game they have better mileage and can actually ask for 40 chips at a time.

In your harvesting adventures if anyone ever asks you if you want the chips to play...your answer is always YES. It doesn't feel good to lie but you might get in some tight situations so it is best to always just affirm to them that you intend to play.

Also when asking BJ or other dealers take a look at their tray. If they have tons of 1s then feel free to ask. If they only have a few 1s in their rack then don't bother since they will say no almost for sure.

If you play craps and do ok that is a great way to harvest 100 chips in a short period of time!

Good Luck and look forward to seeing some pics.

EDIT: oh yeah and go back at different times of day. I would visit in the morning and then go back in the evening when its busy and all the dealers are different. Later in the evening and early morning like 1 or 2 in the morning is the best time since its busy.

Man, I would only harvest chips from a poker room (for me). “Excuse me, can I have a couple racks of $1’s”? Thanks, ... walk away place racks into backpack, sort in room and return discards later. Repeat. Hell, I know ppl that do this, walk to an open poker room table, sort there, then return discards before they leave. .... I mean, the idea that ppl are gamboling in unprofitable pit games to harvest a few chips at a time... madness.. :).

But, I will say some of the chips harvested ARE gorgeous. Those Paris $1’s... stellar.

If Paris would only just open a poker room....it would make it so much easier on us!!

and the marketing tagline might as well be "Now you truly have no more reason to be on our floor!!"

That is true, but the overall condition of the chips would be much worse. Poker player shuffle and beat up chips much worse and faster than general pit game use.

So technically, if I were to say go play poker and take the chips out of the casino, they would have no issue with it?
