I just got back from 3 full days in Vegas & I thought I'd try my hand at harvesting while I was there. I focused on Paris $1 & Flamingo $5 for a mixed cash set that I'm building. It was way more difficult and time consuming than I imagined. Thought it would be easy, but dealers do not like to give up $1's & I had to sort through approx 600+ chips to get not quite 3 racks that were acceptable. Total haul = 421 chips.

281 Paris $1 - 115 NM / 166 VF+ (dirty & minor wear-will clean up well)
120 Flamingo $5 - well used, very dirty, no chips or flea bites
20 Bally's $4 - NM

That’s awesome. But with respect, have you considered snagging some secondary market $5’s that are not live, which would cost much less than $5 each? The $1’s are a no brained tho, imho.

Agreed but those Flamingo 5s ARE great. Nice colors and THC.

Beautiful. And those 5s... Gorgeous.

I do agree, the $5’s go well with those ones. Love flamingos chips.

Though if paying full retail, I like Bally’s $5’s... but ya, not THC, so maybe the birds win...?

I total understand what you are saying, but .....the heart wants what the heart wants. I do love those birds.

@ADS Aviator I see you have 1 barrel over a rack. I am interested in a barrel of 5s if you want to sell. I always meant to get some but never did.

Did you just go and get 10x $1s at a time like @Lemonzest ?

Yes. @Lemonzest previous harvesting posts were extremely helpful. I followed this strategy : buy $100 at a craps table, immediately ask for $10 change. Wait for shooter to win or 7 out then move on to the next craps table while pocketing $1s. At next craps table, drop 2 of the $5 chips and ask for change. Repeat at remaining craps tables. Then make the rounds of all the roulette tables & ask for change of 2 $5 chips. Most will comply. Next go the the money wheels (at night there are 2) buy $40 $1s for cash. Make a couple bets, then take the remainder, make an excuse to leave & say you'll come back later. They'll want to color up, but just walk away and pretend you don't hear them. Then go back to the craps tables (other side than before) & ask for change. Blackjack dealers have very few $1s and will not part with them. Don't even ask. Repeat a few hours later.

20 at a time from wheel game and roulette.

10 at a time from BJ and all other pit games.

Craps only works if your playing.

YMMV

Craps - sometimes I put a pass line bet out, sometimes not and pretended that I changed my mind and just walked away.
BJ - I could not get anybody to give me any $1 w/o playing. I gave up & stayed away.
Roulette - when I asked for change everybody looked at me like I was asking for something crazy. 9/10 complied for $10 change. Didn't have the guts to ask for $20
Money Wheel - their trays are 80% $1s. i usually got 40 here.
Cage - asked for 10 $1s for 2 $5 chips. Was refused.

Since you asked, I went back and looked & noticed about 30 that are noticeably thinner than the others. I pulled them out & these are going back. So now I'm short. I'll go back in the spring, but may have a buddy going in the next couple of months. If you don't acquire a barrel before then, i'll hook you up.

Thanks! I would really like best condition possible and without flea bites.

Great chips!

Very nicely done. I had the most luck at Paris playing craps, but I play craps anyway. I would throw down $100 and get ten in singles. Sort out the good ones and start pocketing those between throws. Bet the bad ones on a two way hard way bet (that shows them you use the ones to tip). Every time they rotate stick men, I’d drop ten more and ask for more singles. I’d rotate tables as well but didn’t do it too often. I was at a table that treaded water for a couple hours and was able to pocket 150 nice singles for $200. Not great but not horrible. If the table goes cold, those chips could get expensive.

Those Bally’s chips look nice. You going to use them as $4s? Relabel?

Exactly. Playing craps works great to harvest so long as the table isnt cold. I burned 40 bucks in about 1 minute.

They are probably just going to sit in a rack & look pretty. I got them because: 1) I'm a sucker for drop chips. Not sure why, but i like them. & 2) I kept being told they are not for sale. When I found someone willing to sell me 2 for my individual chip collection, I figured I'd might as well get a barrel. Not sure how many exist outside of Bally's, but I might own most of them.

Any way you’d be willing to sell me or trade me one of the $4 chips for my odd denomination collection? I have almost every other $2, $3, & $4 chip from Vegas

"Change for tips please" is what I say. Never had it not work, but it's 10-20 at a time and I always hit the slow tables.

Love the $5's by the way!

That is pretty sweet, but is like a $900 cash set...Those $5s add up quickly... and having live $25s....yikes....

Those 4's are the bomb!

The big wheel is the ticket. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and it almost felt like steeling.
Plop down $40 and get 2 barrels of 1's - over and over and over.
Easiest harvest out there for a great $1.
Do you play the spin, or just get change and then run away?
