Musky Jacks V2 (CPC) (7 Viewers)

Scroll is the best mold, good choice!

Any thoughts of 44mm scroll for the large denoms? Might be fun (or just a longer wait lol)

Edit: wrong chip size lol
Yeah, just limited though in spots which is sad - don't love the choices offered to keep progression going (or mimic my current).

V6 - changelog... think this might be the final (although most changes likely unnoticeable to anyone but me):
  • Cabin & Cardroom font and size adjusted
  • Land O' Lakes font and size adjusted, removed "WI"
  • "5" and "2" denom font edited slightly
  • Seaweed background removed, gradient added from border (think it removes some clutter)
  • Edit: Forgot.. updated NCV chip as well. Like this spot better.

I know this probably isn’t your thing, however you should probably order one extra barrel of each in case you have you know, chip breakages. Very common.

Also that means I could buy 1 of each as I build up my niche fishing themed sample sets…

Yeah, I have a tendency to buy a rack or two more than I need of each. Ha

There's always room for one more version.... a few things were slightly eating at me on the inlay.. bit the bullet and redid a few things.
  • Slightly smaller lures
  • Removed "Musky Jack's" overhang (created a centering issue with "Cabin and Card Room").
Very happy with this, tighter feel.

V7 - nothing bugging me anymore... maybe that's the sign.

Let’s see, CPC likely aren’t accepting new orders for 2-3 months+ minimum, so you’re just going to leave it there buddy and not ‘tweak’?

Over/under we get to V18 by the time the order’s placed?

Sidenote - prefer this mold as well. Always preferred the B-diamond mold over scroll, this one is kinda similar to that by looks.

I do agree that DSQ is objectively the nicer mold, but Scroll fits the theme better...
One thing to consider: should you like to add onto this set in the future with some 43mm plates, Scroll is also available in that size...

As @Kam mentioned, plenty of time to still change everything about this set a few times over, so no worries :D

Yeah, I expect myself to hem/haw over it for the next few months until I can lock the order in. I'm getting scroll samples to play with still.

Definitely agree though that it's a decision trade-off of theme vs feel. My wife likes Diamond Square though vs Scroll, so there's also that.

In the end I think I would love either, but also want to make a decision by what would encourage me or others to want it on the table more.

Time to stew I guess. Hopefully Mike opens up ordering soon so I just can make a decision and go. Ha.. I'm not used to giving myself this much time to second guess/think.

Edit: Wife says Diamond Square, good friends and fishing buddies say Scroll. Uh oh. Ha

Personally for the design aspect I like the scroll better, but for the actual playability of the set the feel/sound of the diamond square is far better and outweighs the aesthetics of scroll.

You have a winner either way though, great design as always!

I love Scroll generally, but it feels a little too high roller-y/"this should be in a casino with a roman theme" for this set specifically. Diamond Square just meshes better with the old school/cabin & card room vibe.

Yeah, I've seen the scrolls as being the closest to a hook or wave, but wife gave similar feedback.

For me it’s about how some of the other aesthetic choices play against the two. I think the shaped inlay you’ve selected benefits from the extra ring in the diasquare and I think 18 size spots look so fantastic on it whereas they look a little sad splashed onto scroll (though I think the 3TA316 is happier on scroll). Perhaps it’s always just an artefact of the design tool which I think overemphasizes these things but I do feel certain spots look right/wrong on certain molds

I tend not to comment much on CPC mock threads outside of PMs, but this is obviously a good thread that actually listens feedback (which is rare - especially for an already great designer).

This would be a tough one for me also. Huge fan of the mold matching the theme and is a top criteria for me, which makes Scroll perfect, but I definitely understand the superior aesthetic of the DSQ. I agree with @FestiveKnight that the shaped inlays are improved with an extra ring, but I'm still having a hard time reconciling DSQ with the theme besides visually being a top three mold CPC offers. Of course, it ultimately still works due to that.

Any thought as to CSQ? It's the most popular for a reason being a/the top aesthetic w/ an extra ring, fits the theme way better than DSQ, and assuming the pricing stays proportional relative to the other molds, it is the third cheapest inlay mold to use, which could certainly help since shaped inlays cause a significant price-hike.

Anyway, GL with the set and tough decision (and dibs NCV chip)!

Edit - Also, 43mm Scroll like that other dude said would also be sick for a future add-on. Or now lol.

Appreciate the response. I've been also rethinking CSQ some too, it's definitely the jack of all trades mold IMO, I think I just didn't look at it because I was avoiding given how often it is selected.

I also still love the 44mm Scroll thoughts, thinking about how I might incorporate there.. would need to do something if I do go scroll.

That all said, I think at this point I might just need to mockup all three molds, get inlaid samples (only missing Scroll), and take them on a family/friend roadshow for input too. I thought last night that I should likely pull in my father & grandmother given the set's theme/origins and have them be a part of the process a bit more too. Think that will likely mean more for me in the long run as well, but will be a good 6 months before I likely see them next.

Well, I'm not good at slow decisions.

Talked through it with Dad/Grandmother/Aunt. Reviewed molds.. talked through textures, raised some input here. They landed on the Diamond Square - the most "Jack". So Diamond Square it is.
