Looking for a quantity check. Going to build a mixed cash set. Single table - blinds depend on the group and are usually either .25/.50, .50/1, or 1/2. I've considered a nickel game, but are they really any fun? Seems like they would get messy.

Here's what I'm thinking.

.25 - 200x
$1 - 200x
$5 - 160x
$20 or $25 - 80x
$100 - 40x

Bank $7050 with $25 chips, $6650 with $20

Does this seem playable across the board? Too many quarters maybe (I love the quarter chips so I'm trying to justify more of them lol) Not enough fives?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Personally I would go with something like:

.25 - 120x
$1 - 200x
$5 - 280-300x
$20 or $25 - 80x
$100 - 20x

Too many quarters, not enough $5s.

Frac-100
$1-200
$5-400
$20/$25-200
$100-100

That should future proof you all the way up to $1/$3 stakes.

Personally, I’d even get up to 600 $5s

Do you ever play limit?

We use a lot of quarters when we play 0.25/0.50 7-stud games. A lot like over 200 for 7 players. (Although we use the same 25s for $25 or $0.25.)

That's a lot of 5s lol. I can't even pick a 5 I like either.

Does everyone suggest a lot more 5s even if 1/2 is the rarest of the the 3 stakes that are played?

Very very rare. Only a few guys even know other games exist besides hold em.

Of course it depends on your game. We always need 400 $5s, even at 0.25/0.50, but 200 always seems too few. It can work, but I believe in future proofing my sets when and where I can. Our games play big enough that we need at least 300 of them, but then we’d need at least one rack of $20/$25 and at least a barrel or two of hundos just in case.

My personal bare minimum cash set would be 100/200/300/100/100 to cover most stakes we could possibly play

My ideal 25c/50c set:
100x 25c
200x $1
200x $5
40x $20/$25
10x $100

My game plays like a $1/$1 (i.e. pf raises to $3-$4)... so in my mind, this covers you up to your 50c/$1 game. Now, what do I think a $1/$2 game should use:

100x $1
200x $5
200x $20/$25
40x $100
10x $500

Notice the quantities are basically the same, the denoms have just shifted.

Combine those sets:
100x 25c
200x $1
200x $5
200x $20/$25
40x $100
10x $500

The players that more frequently play the $1/$2 games tend to like to have more $5s and likely won't want the $500s... so get rid of the $500s and add a couple racks of $5s... and viola:
100x 25c
200x $1
400x $5
200x $20/$25
40x $100

Sounds like yours play bigger more often than mine. I like to put a cap on buy ins. I had a feeling I needed more 5s though and too many fracs.

I think I am going to go with something similar to @saleen121212 posted. Hopefully pick a readily available 5 so I can add in the future if needed. I really like the HP 5 though

.25 - 120x
$1 - 200x
$5 - 280-300x
$20 or $25 - 80x
$100 - 20x

I suppose tacky ones do. Good point. I don’t like any 5s. Know of any yellow base 5s besides HP?
Not that are easily and readily available. Yellow THC $5s are highly sought after. I did just sell 2 barrels of CdM mustard yellow chips, you need to be quick on the draw and ready to pay though when they pop up

There are some options but they are hard to get:

Caminos (my profile pic), Oceansides, Lakeshore Inn and some more.

Casino de Mexico could be an option though they are mustard I believe...
eBay has the casino de Mexico's currently

Thanks for the info. Looks like a red 5 it is. Now to find one to go with a Sam’s $1

I’m a fan of a pink $5 with red or maroon in it like the Scandia $5. Dare I say this would go well with a Sam’s $1 too...
