These cards were ordered through a group buy I ran at Chiptalk ~12 years ago.

Design was completed via voting on CT. Eventual design was gold/black backs with poker chip design. If I recall correctly, CTer sn0wstorm made the back design.

I think at the time Modiano had a 500 deck MOQ. I think we hit ~400 and the retailer that was handling the logistics picked up the rest.

Art proof of the design and some pics I just took.

OK, I gotta ask even if it makes me look like a total noob ( I don't even know what a TKR chip is).......

What in the world do we need 4 colors for on cards again?

It was a novelty we all collaboratively designed with the intent of pissing off all of the old man coffees at our individual games.

Also, if I ever had the opp to host Mike Caro at one of my games he'd be quite impressed.

Never misread the board for a Flush.

How much are they?

It's helpful for games with more than two cards, like Omaha. Especially at showdown. Especially if more than two players are showing down.

....and why 4 pips, and lord, why Modiano?
I agree with why 4 pips - they look so busy when laid like a holdem board or a stud hand that they almost make me panic.
But why Modiano? This group buy happened way before Modiano screwed over desjgn, apparently. And up until Modiano screwed over desjgn, I'm pretty sure they were one of the favorite brands here. I often saw their platnum acetates tossed around as some people's favorite card. And they had so many colors available on amazon - they were a popular card. They were kind of a big deal.

Just wanted to refresh everyones memory. I'll never buy them again

I hear you. I'm mostly there. But like when somebody offered some casino modianos for sale this week, I grabbed some. I figure Modiano isn't getting any money out of that.

Don't get me wrong guys. I love cards, only games I gamble are those I clouding use of cards. Some don't like 4 color decks. I do not mind, I use them mostly for 4 and 5 cards PLO. I have Modiano deck in question. I would prefer clubs to be yellow but that's fine. Right now I can't wait for my Grimaud Black Jack decks, very French with R instead K and D for Q, V for J.

I can understand the hate. If my group buy cards turned out as poorly I'd feel the same way. I think perhaps Modiano had some production issues in general as there was widespread complaints about the Modiano cards during the 2015 WSOP.

In the past they made a top notch product - way better than Copag and others. Not sure of their present day product as I haven't purchased a Modiano deck in over a decade.

My first experience with a french deck was at a casino in Montreal. At first I was like WTF is going on!? I initially had to look at the full faces of my cards as I didn't know what the hell R, D, and V meant initially.

No hate here, but no love either. Sorry to crap on your thread

For me cards are magical like a Schrodingers Cat... You never know what you have unless you chack. For those people who know Roger Zelazny cards are the reason I like Amber series so much

I got a deck of these on Amazon a few years ago. I love 4 color, and this is the only 4 color bridge deck I have seen other then the new Desjgn Classic Circles. Was never crazy about the 4 pips, but no card is perfect!

The Desjgn cards are sweet but I wish they were regular index.

I have been totally satisfied with Modiano quality over the years, and at $4.5 - 5 per (fully plastic) deck here, they have just no rival (here) other than the sister brand Dal Negro (at $4 for a fully plastic deck).
Platinum Acetates, though, do cost $13 per deck.

What retailer do you usually get your cards from?
