Lots of discussion about this via email/text and in the BBotB thread here. Curious as to what everyone - including those coming to BBotB and everyone else as well - would see as the best possible mix and the order of the games played.

My preference is generally to have a set rotation rather than a pure dealer's choice game and I'd prefer to have the limit and big bet games alternating for the most part during the rotation. My dream mix would be (played in this order):

Omaha 8 (Limit)
Big O Hi-Lo (PL)
Pitch and Bitch (Stud 8 where each player gets four, discards one and rolls his own up card) (Limit)
Dramaha (PL)
2-7 TD (Limit)
2-7 Single Draw (NL)
Badugi (Limit)
SOHE (PL)
Criss Cross (Limit)
PLO Flips

PLO flips with a twist, flip one card on each action, flip 1st card preflop, flip 1 card after flop, 1 card after turn, final card on the river

All games PL unless otherwise noted

SOHE
PLO (double board)
SOHE
PLO8 (double board)
SOHE flips
BigO
SOHE
BigO8
SOHE
Scrotum
SOHE flips
Tahoe
SOHE
Dramaha
SOHE
27SD (NL)
SOHE flips

NLHE
PLO
PLO Double Board
PLO8
BigO
BigO8
NL 2to7 SD
SOHE

I like a fixed rotation better but with 8 games I think it works better as an orbit+1 dealer's choice...

I prefer rotating orbits of NLHE followed by NLHE.

:)

In all seriousness, I've started to consider this myself (as the host of a meetup where mixed games are played). I'm not a huge mixed game specialist, and only have fleeting interest in a few games. I love my old "dealers choice" games we used to host, but some of the mixed games now become overly complicated and get very pricey, very fast. Games with hi/lo, and qualifiers, and split pots, and 4 hole cards can get scary fast.

I did the HORSE tourney on p*, but that sucked balls to learn. Since rounds are like 4-5 minutes long, you never really get into a groove and start to understand the game, before another game starts.

I do very much like SOHE, but primarily because it has a hold'em component to it, so it feels more comfortable to me. And it mixes in the Omaha side of things as well for spice.

PLO8 has a hold'em feel to it. Same flop, turn, and river, lol.

I love Hi/Lo games. It brings a different strategy to the game. Now playing with qualifiers.........nope. Never done that. Screw the pot matching games if you lose.

stop being the crusty white dude. expand your horizons.

im not expert in many of the games bergs and jb talk about but if the stakes are right im game to learn them.

I have been... donated/played the recent PCF P* HORSE tourney, and sucked giant fat balls. I learned that 4 minutes rounds sucks to try to learn any game. I imagine it'd be easier live, so you have time to digest things a little better.

I've also started playing the mixed tables at meetups (albeit briefly), to get a feel for different games. My background with poker is around 20 years of playing nothing BUT mixed games (stud variants, draw, etc..), and only recently moved to favor NLHE with the poker boom. But the games that are being played now, are wild.

my statement wasnt intended to be an insult FYI. Youre clearly a proficient NL player, from what you post. I feel that learning new games is more fun than playing the same old game over and over, If I had a group who were easily taught new games, I would introduce more. They cant even understand the basics behind a hi-lo game. I gave up with them many moons ago

FWIW a lot of these games might sound intimidating, but the advantage of jumping on board ASAP is that the earlier you get into them, the less edge other people have since you're all still learning it together.

Dramaha is a good case in point. It took me a couple orbits this past game before I realized how much value the 5-card draw hand has in the game. There are similar dynamics to games like Badeucey and Badaci. You learn what to go for and what to back into. But if you wait to try them until everyone else has been playing them regularly for a year or more, you're going to take the worst of it much more often.

And it might be tempting to say, "Yeah, but now I'm behind in all these games, so what's the point?" But new games are coming up all the time. The last game Tahoe Hi/Lo and Dramaha were relatively new to a bunch of folks and this next round it looks like we'll be playing some pot limit 2-7 Triple Draw, which I've played only once maybe twice before.

Are you basing this on 6 max at a table? I might switch the 2-7 Single Draw with Big O high low, but otherwise like the line up

Assuming this game has a dedicated dealer, otherwise certain people should not be dealing certain games, or else we will never make it to the flips

I didn't think through the maximum at the table tbh. We could do 8-max and have the player behind the button sit out during the rounds where only 7 can be dealt in. That's how I handle it at my Sunday night game now: 9-max game where during the Tahoe rounds the man behind the button sits out (they're sticklers about needing to have enough cards to burn before the river or else we could do 9-max Tahoe).

And yeah that's one of the troubles with a good mix - you absolutely must have a good dedicated dealer.

Replace Pitch and Bitch with Tahoe hi/lo

Id be fine with stud, but not enough cards for 7 player P&B unless you shuffle cards back in

We'll just use the aces and kings from another deck. The extra kings will be "ace +1" and the extra aces will be "ace +2". Easy peasy.

Not sure if serious but we're not doing this. It's a recipe for disaster with a dealer, and without one it is an unmitigated disaster.

Let's continue the BBOTB-centric game selection in the BBOTB thread.

No not serious. But would be hilarious.

My ideal mix consist of a pattern of board, stud and draw games in rotation.

NLHE (yes, I know)
Pitch and Bitch (limit 7 stud hi/lo, 4 down, throw 1, roll your own)PLO
2-7 Triple draw (limit)

Crazy Pineapple
Razz
2-7 single draw (no limit)

PLO
Super Stud hi (5 down, pitch 2 and roll your own)
Badugi

Tahoe
Mini-May (5 card stud hi/lo 10 or better with community card, replace and declare)
Dramaha

Then, cap the rotation with SOHE and repeat.

All games PL unless otherwise noted

SOHE
PLO (double board)
SOHE (Australian Rules)
PLO8 (double board)
SOHE flips
BigO
SOHE
BigO8
SOHE (Australian Rules)
Scrotum
SOHE flips
Tahoe
SOHE
Dramaha
SOHE (Australian Rules)
27SD (NL)
SOHE flips

FYP. You were almost perfect.

Ok, this is a dream game, right? I'm at the table with Penelope Cruz, Katy Perry, Scarlett Johansson, Salma Hayek, Christina Hendricks, Sophia Vergara, Liv Boeree , Vanessa Rousso, Evy Ng - last 3 players so drunk they can barely see their cards so I have a chance to win a pot.

Rotation:
Strip PLO
Strip Crazy Pineapple
Strip SOHE
Strip NLHE

Break for cocktails
repeat.

+ 1 on Liv

But you missed Sam Abernathy...

Limit
Omaha/8
Razz
7-card Stud
7-card Stud/8
2-7 Triple Draw
Badugi

We usually don't have Pot Limit or No Limit in our home games because we want everyone to hang our for a while. But if people came sufficiently rolled, I'd add

Pot Limit Omaha
Pot Limit Omaha/8
No Limit Texas Hold em
No Limit A-5 Single draw
