To start, I never did quarters, and stopped doing single dollars years ago. People can either throw in cash to round up to the nearest five or (more traditional/common) tip the change to the host to help cover snacks and card set ups.
At .10/.25 and .25/.25 games it was always rounded down to the nearest dollar and everyone throws their fracs in the middle and runs a random hand for whatever was left over.
If the bank didn’t have any singles we’d run to the nearest $5, but usually whoever was banking had a bunch of change so everyone had the option of leaving with what they actually cashed out.
(Editing to say rotating self-deal games, never had a dedicated dealer though I’d imagine we’d just tip them out as mentioned above)

For years I haven’t used fracs, but have moved back to 25/50c to lower the stakes just a bit as we mix in more high variance games. I have plenty of $1’s to give people if needed. Usually winners round down to donate towards food/drinks. Losers I give them their full amount or will even round up, especially if I am the big winner.
Also, when I play somewhere else, I am either rounding down to the nearest $20 to donate to the host, or if it only a few dollars, I give them a $20 from my cash out for food/drinks.

I am shocked by the volume of y'all managing 1s. But hence why I asked. Curious to see how this question shakes out as we get more responses.

Our game is .20/.20. I round my players up to the nearest 1 and cover the difference from my stack. It’s never more than a couple bucks a session, which is plenty worth it to get some table time.

Usually they round to the nearest $10/$20 threshold and there are some degenerate flips.

This might also reflect the size of the game (i.e., buy-in amount).
My game is small-stakes by most here at $40 buy-in (with rebuys and add-ons as expected). If I were cashing folks out at $5 increments, some might wind up feeling a bit taken if they were on the shorter side of that amount.
Way back when I was hosting micro-stakes ($10, nickel/dime blinds), I'd cash out at the quarter level.
.25/.25 and round to the nearest 5.

Depends on the stakes, IMO. If it is .05/.10 blinds and a $10 buy in, .25 is probably reasonable, maybe $1. For a game using .25 as the BB, probably $1. For a $1/2 game, rounding to $5 might be appropriate

Have one player who's buy-in always includes at least twenty 1s. Doesn't really bother me and always assume he just saves up all his change throughout the month as his bankroll.
Because it's not that hard. Generally 2/3 of the table will toss extra ones to top the dealer. Anything else can be handled by 1 broken down 20.

Yeah I always make sure to grab a stack of 1s prior to my games. Can be annoying for impromptu games when I don’t have the chance to grab any.

I got a 100 ones pay out anyone who asks for an exact payout. Most regulars don’t ask for $1s but I wouldn’t want a new player feeling self conscious. Our norms don’t necessarily make sense to new folks.

.25/.50 game $100 buy-in. I just do my initial buy- in using $1's, $5's, and $10's which gives plenty of small bills to cash out everyone at the end of the night. We just do a final 5 card "showdown hand for the odd Quarters.
This. Most of my players cash out to the nearest $5 or $10, but if they are new and ask for that dollar or so, I don’t mind. I keep lots of small bills around

I voted $5 as that what’s I’m prepared to pay out down to, but nobody ever wants it. The gang counts their chips, and gives me a total while sliding a tip to the dealer for the extra the majority of the time. If they lost, I generally round up. But, rounding to the closest $20 is the common practice.
