Are these from the set that you did last year? What is that color? Can't decide if it's red and just a bad photo, or something else.

It is from the set I did last year. Yes, it’s “red”. Red is one of Matsui’s biggest weakness. All of their red-ish options SUCK.

So are you saying the red T5 in this tournament set (Sands) is going to be that same color?

I would need to double check. I am also going to get some samples made on their other plastic to see what the difference in feel is, because the difference in color brightness is extreme.

And I should not speak for this group buy. lol.
This is @justincarothers !!

I assumed he would use the plastic that was used for the Horseshoe set. But I don't know for sure.

As I recall, there was a lot of discussion about the Matsui plastics in the original interest thread. I'm pretty certain that these chips are using the same plastic that you used in the Horseshoes.

This is the photo he posted in post #1 of this thread showing the color combos for the non-denominated through the T25 chips.

Yeah, I took that photo. I will try to find the photo that I also took, showing that the Matsui "red" using that plastic....SUCK

There is hope, however. The Zen $5 chip, shown in this photo, is a much better red, and I don’t know how. It is the same “color number”?

I am ordering new color samples to just see if things have changed over time.

The Zen 39mm $5 is an infinitely better red but also substantially more slippery than the Horseshoe 43mm 5. Substantially. It is my one gripe with the Zen set: the .25 - 100 chips, all 39mm, are pretty slippery. @liftapint might be able to confirm, but they may be the same material as the Emerald Bays and those were slippery. They don’t feel quite that slippery but, maybe that’s just in my head.

Interestingly, though, the 43mm Zen chips, the $500 and $1000, have a slightly different, more pleasant feel and seem less slippery than the 39mm Zens. But, they are still more slippery than the 43mm Horseshoes, which is what the Sands set was meant to mimic.

We're doing 42-01-03 42-01-04 again? (Same as the WSOP T100).

It looks sooo good.

Ah! Well, based on the photos in the OP it’s 42-01-04.
Yeah that's what I meant to type.. good catch. Though this is mainly off guessing that the color is identical just by eyeballing the screenshot.

The red on Sands T5 is #17 Scarlet, base on the Horseshoe was #16 Maroon.

It is interesting how different the new Zen batch red looks compared to the color kit, almost like the chip was made with ABS instead of nylon.

Thanks! That gives some hope. Maybe they have adjusted the color formula a bit.

So did this GB ever happen or is it trying to get off the ground?
Didn't happen ...yet?...
Thank you if it gets revived I would like to know.
I think that's what is happening right now. Two pages of posts in the past two weeks with some new people posting interest.

Maybe Justin will comment on whether it can still happen and where it stands.
