I was able to source everything from Australia without much of a problem, except to my wallet of course. I kept a folder with receipts for everything that I bought to make my tables, I will have a dig through my files on the weekend and see if I can find it for you.
I made my tables in a hurry without having played on any good quality homemade tables before so I made some decisions that I now regret. I will eventually get rid of the two I made and make the next two juuuuust right. I have been saying this for 5 years though. One day I will get around to it.
I didn't start building until I had all the supplies at home ready to go as I didn't want to be held up during the build process waiting for something to arrive. Unfortunately for me, while I was waiting for the foam to arrive, an old incandescent light bulb in my storage room blew and dropped hot glass onto my folded piece of black SSC. The glass burnt holes right through multiple layers of the cloth! I decided to go with red on second attempt.
First table I made was a behemoth tournament table. Full size 2400 x 1200 mm (94x47"). Seats 10 comfortably but for some reason I put in 8 cup holders in the rail. Raised 150 mm (6") black vinyl rail with HD foam. Red SSC over closed cell foam.
I started playing fewer tournaments shortly after finishing the oval table and scooping pots/cards with 6 players on the huge oval got tiresome very quickly. I decided to build a new table using left overs from the first table. There was JUSTTTT enough area on the black SSC without burn holes to cover a small round surface so I decided on a cosy 1200 mm round table for my 6 max cash game. The only new thing I bought was some gaming suede for the rail from the US (wanted to see how it was compared to vinyl) and some more cup holders.
From memory (2013):
- Speed cloth and stainless steel cup folders from Aussie online poker store, there are a couple to choose from. Got them delivered.
- Closed cell foam for the playing surface from pjbowers.com.au. Got it delivered.
- Open cell foam for the rail from dymanfoams.com.au, I picked this up.
- Vinyl for one table from Spotlight, got it during a sale so it was a good price and quality was surprisingly excellent. One huge piece.
- Gaming suede for another table from the US, picked this up when there for work.
- Plywood from specialty plywood supplier in Brisbane, usually cheaper and much better quality than Bunnings. Have to pickup.
- Iron on edge banding from another specialty wood supplier, excellent stuff
What kind of table are you making? What supplies do you already have? What tools are you going to use?
