There are newer plastic versions.

And older (metal) versions.

Are any of them useful alternatives for a home game in the absence of a shuffletech?

From my perspective it’s deck mate or hand shuffle. I don’t think any of the in-between options make sense.
I kindly disagree.
Few people can shuffle fast and correctly.

Even a cheap chinese automatic shuffler accelerates the game (with 2 decks, of course and the host as permanent shuffler / machine operator).
Whenever the cheapo breaks down, you buy another one at 0.5% of the price of a deckmate.

And I 'd never trust a software-based randomiser like the deckmate (which knows which card is which) in a "home" (i.e. underground) game.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I just criticized the shuffletech in another thread for being loud and slow, but I have no qualms of playing in a game that's using one, because I know it's "dumb.' I'm sure it's completely unlikely that anybody would be using a hacked deckmate at the stakes I play - they'd be losing money with every pot they stole. But still, I'd never advise anybody to play with a deckmate outside of a regulated casino. There's just a word of risk.

The 2nd gen ones are highly sus. Gen 1 doesn’t have that capability as far as I know.

Aside from the noise, which drowns out after a while, my shuffletech has been awesome and the players love not having to shuffle. Doesn't help them deal though (lookin at your @upNdown) :ROFLMAO:. In all seriousness, if you can get a good used unit it's a bargain if you have a table with 1-2 sub par shufflers or peoples who don't follow game pace well.
