Hey guys. I'm going to do a last-longer for the first time this weekend. I've participated in them before, but only in freezeouts and we always do rebuys for the first few levels at my game (more like a reentry, as you can only rebuy once you bust out). How do you guys run them in this format? Any input is much appreciated.

Imo, a last longer is last longer. If everybody has the same chance to re-buy, then it's whoever is around at the end (or longest). Some people do it otherwise.

Great. That was my initial idea, as a number of us really gamble it up during the rebuy period and I didn't want to discourage that with a last longer. Just wasn't sure if it was fair. Thanks, BG.

If I were doing it, I'd have it that a rebuy eliminated you from the "last longer" prize -- reward the initial buy-in, not the deep pockets. This would also create some interesting strategic decisions for people -- as the rebuy period is ending, do you gamble for chips knowing you can rebuy and stay in the tournament, or do you take a crack at winning the "last longer" even if that might put you at a disadvantage to win the overall tournament?

Only time I've done a "last longer" it was a side bet with one or more people in a tournament.
I've never heard it being done as a tournament structure. Isn't the tourney winner the last longer winner?

OK that makes sense. It's just a really big side bet
Not necessarily. I've seen last-longer pools that cost anywhere from $5 to $40 per player (for tournaments with anywhere from $20 to $200 entry). Could be higher, I suppose. Just another way to get yer gambol on. :)

Some of the higher-cost ones call it a side pool, and will pay out more than one place (usually two, 2/3 and 1/3 to the two highest-finishing participants).
