Last night, my boss scheduled an impromptu meeting for this morning, with no discernable reason or agenda. The company is pretty slow on business, so my spidey-sense starts tingling. Sure enough, my position has been eliminated effective this morning and my 3Y stint with this company is officially over. They are paying 200+ hours of accrued PTO, providing a reasonable severance, and unemployment benefits will then kick in. I can also now use my HSA to fund insurance premiums for the rest of the year. The end result of all this? I will look for a perfect match fully-remote job, but I also may have just retired! I'm going to enjoy my time @w00zie 's Black Forest meetup in Germany, potentially extend my travel dates for @BonScot 's event in Glasgow and see what makes sense after visiting @Gunnar and the family in Iceland. I hereby proclaim 2025 as "The Summer of Forrest", Costanza-style.

Sorry to hear Forrest. A lot of us including yours truly with near term employment uncertainty. Best wishes, wherever the journey takes you.

Wishing you well, Forrest. whatever you decide your next steps to be, I hope they’re filled with fun and run goods

Sounds like you’ve got a great outlook on it, best of luck and hope you get some run good for the meetups and future remote gig!

Good luck my friend, enjoy your extended summer vacation and whatever may come for you in the future!

Congratulations Forrest. I think sometimes life has better plans for us even if we don’t see them initially.
Wishing you all the best my friend.

Sorry for the sudden change in plans, but sounds like you have some cushion and flexibility! Good luck with everything and enjoy your (hopefully brief, unless you want to extend it) enforced time off!

Time to become a traveling meetup pro!
Like @CraigT78 ?

Sorry to hear but on the same time might be an exciting opportunity. You let me know if there is anything you need ☺️

Well that's an interesting development. I sometime think that will be the only way I will move on to retirement but.....

Good luck on hunting if that's what you choose to do but in the meantime, enjoy the surprise vacation time, make the most of it. You may not want to go back to the grind after that. No doubt you will land right side up. :cool

GL! Like others have mentioned, sometimes we don’t fully see the path forward. But when we look back, you see that you were right where you needed to be. I know that with your abilities and intellect, there will be opportunities for you. The best part is that you will get to choose, including whether you wanna continue with the grind, or not. I have no doubt that you find where you want to be.
In the meantime, enjoy “The Summer of Forrest”!!

My father is doing a similar balancing game; laid off after 36 years with the company. He wasn't ready to retire yet but it beats the hell out of updating a resume!

Good luck and well wishes, hope you find a cushy remote gig for sure.

Sounds like you have a decent cushion with the severance package that you can find a "right fit for you" job, which is good. Not sure what field you're in but I do have a few head hunter associates that I can put you in contact with if you need.

Take those trips, enjoy yourself, and you'll wind up in a good spot!

Good luck! I've been out of work for three months. I've almost exclusively applied for numerous positions that I am clearly qualified for and have been ghosted by the vast majority of those companies and rejected by the rest. It's not a great time to be out of work if you actually want to work. At least not in my industry.

I like "Congrats!" better than "I'm sorry," so we'll stick with the former. Either way, the best to you and I will see you soon.
