Hey All!

I've never played in a Time Structure/Membership Structure format before, I've only been in traditional rake formats when I lived in Ohio.

I was thinking about making a trip to KY and checking out some of their card rooms where it appears you purchase a membership and then there is an additional hourly fee for playing, but no normal table rake.

What is a good/reasonable fee when compared to areas like TX that have a similar structure??

And how would it compared to say a 10%, $5 cap at 1-2 like I used to play?

Thank you for your time and apologies for my ignorance. Just trying to choose the best one to play at. Seems like there's a few options.

So a game like this, I am assuming is going to take something like $14-17 per player per hour

(I would assume something like 80% of hands hit max rake in this structure, so guess an average rake is something like $4.50 per hand over maybe 25-30 hands an hour.)

I have played in timed games that range between $14-20 hr. (Usually collected on the half-hour.)

I have never played in a membership game, but I would assume with these points of comparison, you could probably figure out how such a structure compares.

Do you have figures for the clubs at which you are looking?

Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

I've looked at the 3 closest to me and this is all I could find onle:

1. The one I found the most information on is called The Barrel Social. Looks like seat rental is $14 an hour, and the memberships are $10 a day. $14 an hour feels kind of steep to me, but maybe I'm just ignorant to how much rake I'd normally pay.

2. The Royal Social club, the most recent thing I can find is $12 an hour from a reddit post in 2022. And no membership pricing listed on their website. Wouldn't shock me if it's gone up since then.

3. The Diamond Social Club, I can't find any listed hourly fee, just the $5 daily fee. But I am sure they are not only charging people $5 a day. Attached a picture of all I could find, maybe someone on here has played and has some more info on them.

Time rake in a 1/3 game is a win win for the house and the players. Rake affects lower stakes games more when pots are below the cap, automatically lose 10% to the house (think about how many 1/3 hands are limped pots, stay below $100 to the river vs a 2/5 or 5/10 game where the cap has almost always been reached preflop)

I can also confirm the barrel is an excellent place to play.

For comparison, Moneymaker Social in Louisville charges $10 for a day membership (cheaper if doing it by the week, month, or year), plus $7 time fee paid out of stacks in the 1/3 game every 30 minutes with the dealer change.

$10 a day and $7/HH or $14/hr seems like the number the market has widely settled on. There are pros and cons to all types of time collection (on dealer change from stacks, paying after sessions, pre-paying for time) but generally speaking they’re all the same functionally

@PokerDogDoc & @grahamplayscards Have you guys played at Moneymaker Social?? Would you recommend? Maybe that should be my first trip. They have any free drinks/snacks?

And thank you for the info about the fee structure.

Yes. They have free coffee soda and water. Alcohol not allowed. No free food.
No alcohol allowed surprises me. I'm not a big drinker, but would think that could be good for the game.

I wonder if that's just a local law that would make having alcohol there too difficult.

Yeah it’s a liquor licensing thing (plus a lot of clubs are 18+ as opposed to 21+)
