Cash Game Just a little rant (2 Viewers)

You should try to get a like minded friend or two to assist you in running the tourney. Back in the early 2000’s we hosted a 30-40 person tourney almost every month with substantial money to be won. Cash games always followed.

Thing is there were three of us in charge and we agreed 100% on everything. Total adherence to traditional casino rules poker. Most players appreciated that and were attracted to out tourneys because of it. There was usually one of us at each table but eventually everyone learned the deal and the players themselves would squash any goofiness before it got going.

Luckily in the circles I play in, knowing the proper rules is kinda of a point of pride. Know one wants to play cockamamie Mickey Mouse poker

The benefit to using casino rules, is that nearly everyone can help you run the tournament. Sometimes there will be an esoteric rule where players may disagree, but those are extremely rare. Mrs Zombie and I will occasionally discuss rules, especially odd ones, to stay on top of things. But the truth is, our players are so familiar with casino rules now, that we don't need a "table captain" for anything more than separating the seating cards of eliminated players so we can break down tables faster.

I feel your pain. I’ve had more issues with the one chip rule, too many noobs haven’t played at a casino to experience having to verbalize your bets. Then everyone thinks I’m a prick trying to tell people how to play, then I have to spend 5 minutes explaining it’s a policy/rule that’s enforced at casinos.

In your situation, can you go as far as saying someone wanting to bend/break rules like that is “cheating”? Not that you want to run them out of your game but if they’ve been doing that all night it’s kind of out of line.

Because they weren't taking it easy on the rookie. Too me, it sounds like they were trying to take advantage of the situation.

If they try it again, then the next time you are the big blind, refuse to post it. "Why should I put money in before I get cards? I don't want to." "But those are the rules!"

I don't think anybody was trying to take advantage of the rookie. Now i actually sat at that table. There were some bets that wasn't correct, but i belive it must have escalated after i left because at that time nobody else made those obvious errors. I didn't know anybody there and it really is a stretch to say i know Winberg at all also, haha, so i didn't feel like interfereing to much. Specially since i wasn't involved in those hands. But the main problem was that the new person took so much time, having the same questions awnsered for every bet, every hand, and it felt like it took an hour to go one orbit. I was tired and the game was weird, minimal blinds and more often than not the opening raise was like 15-20xbb with a couple of callers. And every beting sequence took an unusual long time due to above reason. So i didn't sit long.

About the tournament. It was super organized. 10 out of 10. Very professional. There where flyers with basic rules and how to behave. Just super. So MR Winberg deservs a ton of credit. If he wants my money again i will gladly come.

I agree, neither do I. They got fed up and stopped correcting erroneous bets.

I believe so too. Apparently it escalated and other players where making illegal bets as well.

This had actually gotten a lot better by the time I joined! The speed was perhaps a tad low but not bad at all. There weren't that many questions, perhaps you had answered them all by then!

After a few hands I took the liberty of organizing the rookie's chips cause they were in the way and made looking at the cards (which was done on every street!) a hassle for the rookie. I also took it upon myself to be proactive rather then reactive, i.e., saying "your turn, you may check or bet" etc instead of waiting for the question.
Small things like that can speed things up even further

I completely understand. It was actually you I was thinking of when I wrote:

The other players at the table are forgiven for allowing the madness since they were either kinda rookieish or new to my event. On your first visit I totally respect taking a back seat in situations like this.

I understand 100% that your didn't make a stink when you knew absolutely nobody at my event.

For all y'all's information, apparently HMK doesn't only live in the same town as me but also went to the same school at the same time!?!? Wouldn't have met without PCF, though...

So we've had the first European meetup ever and beat Munich by a few months!

I feel I need to elaborate:

Of course it's bad that this rule wasn't followed, but considering the very low stakes and the reason behind it I honestly do not think that this was that big of an issue.

I just got disappointed that this one player didn't immediately accept my decision to stick to the rules once I sat down and that the player started arguing with me. I finally put my foot down and that was that. As the title says, this was a small rant. You should see my big ones...
